Call it what you will... But it does not take a rocket scientist to discover that we are over loaded with talent at the D-line position and under loaded at the Linebacker position... I understand the message of ND pushing a 3-4, but with the addition of the Armsteads, Jones, and Day - that is a ton of quality d-lineman that will never see the field in a 3-4 and I think any fan can admit that our Linebacker play has not but up to par, so why not change it and take advantage of the pocket kings vs folding pocket aces???

IMO Arik and Jarron are perfect size for 3-4 ends.

This is true, but I doubt you see Lynch give up his spot at DE. It seems like he has that motor and once it gets going like it was at the end of the season he's gonna be really hard to stop.

That may be true, and they may very well switch to a 4-3 someday, who knows. But i trust the coaching staff knows the most prudent thing to do with the personel they are amassing. They're a lot closer to football rocket scientists than us arm-chair quarterbacks.

completely agree - I certainly do not know it all, was just looking for some discussion as to why we would not move to a 4-3 if we land the Armstead brothers... I do not see KLM, Nix, Tuitt, Lynch, Day, Jones, Ect saying ok... take our spots. We are talking about 10-12 players with starter capability playing for 3 spots in the 3-4 and that seems wrong to me... that is all I am trying to point out. If the Armstead brothers do not committ - than this is all for not :)

We are hardly overloaded. Almost all of these guys have different skillsets and we want to run lots of different 4 man and 3 man fronts.

Diaco is very "hip" to the fact that 21st century defenses need to be constantly flexing from one thing to another to surprise the opposing O-lines and confuse the quarterbacks. What Diaco is doing, I think, is recruiting to the 3-4, which is the 21st century defensive base, but doing so with great athletes with combinations of speed and power. That means Lynch, Nix, and Tuitt roll out there terrorizing the opponent with their mere presence, and all of a sudden there's Tuitt lining up looking like a DT and Ishaq [or whomever] looking to REALLY crash as a DE. Next play we're back to 3-4, but here comes Te'o up the middle. Next play, looks like maybe it's that 4-3, and whoops here goes Lynch looping around two positions and unblocked into the QB's face. Diaco's going to have increasing amounts of fun with these studs as their careers go forward.... and we are too. The last thing I'm worried about is Diaco NOT using the talent well.

Lax - so great of you to contribute - since you played lacrosse at ND - you can give use some first hand insight... When you play LaCross and we will imagine there being 3 different people that could start at your position... and the coach gave the starting lines as such:

Lynch, Nix, Tuitt

KLM, Day, Armstead

Armstead, Springman, Jones

LAX

Would your thoughts be the same?

While you say we are not loaded, please let me know how we are loaded at LB??? I would love to see some 2 and 3 deep quality rotations at LB...

My beautiful girlfriend (for those who demand pictures for proof check out the "Post your photo" thread) got me tickets to the hockey game last night vs. scUM (w, 3-1). We started at the Fairfield on Angela Blvd. This morning I ran into Jarron. He is a very humble and polite young man and I wam super pumped he is Irish. I do question his reported height. I am 6'3 and it is hard for me to think he is 6'6/7. Regardless, he is a very well built young man.

It was a very good game. I think ND could learn from the video board and music choice they use at the hockey games.

What are you saying, he's much taller than that? :)

I saw the picture in the thread, and he is indeed a starter on the "Out kicked the coverage" team.

Seriously, they all give me hope that one day Kate Beckinsale is going to fall in love with me, and we are getting married and making babies.
