Everything sounds very encouraging. Even the quotes about him treating this as a business trip would seem to be a good sign.

I did look at an Arkansas message board and many of them are just as excited about Neal as we are. I guess they got some good vibes from their in home visit. The mod said "I'm not sure I've talked to a recruit that was more excited about an in-home visit than Davonte. Klenakis (asst coach) blew him and his father away."

Obviously OSU and Arkansas are threats, but it seems like we've set the bar pretty high.

This is the one recruit that I want the most.

So much so that his dad isn't coming with him on his official.

IMO USC and OSU are the competition. Both Arizona schools are out of it.

As a side note I read some stuff on an OSU site and they were already arrogant asses before Meyer got there, but they are now 1,000x worse than before. They literally think every kid is drooling to play for Meyer and to attend OSU.

i think we got him. Parents almost always play a big part in where a kid goes to school. Winning over his dad will give us the edge

USC has great depth at receiver already, but we have seen how that rarely effects recruits. He also wants to be a sportscaster, which USC has a great media program (see Amir Carlisle). They are a serious threat.

Exactly my point.

I thought Carlisle wanted to be an actor.

He did. He also liked business, so Kiffin told him USC had the #1 business school, too. Fun times.

We've got a long way to go with Davonte, but I'm very glad he enjoyed his visit.

I think that is a fair read of the situation. I expect OSU to be a play and I expect USC to do anything in their power to keep him away from Notre Dame... even if that means pushing him to OSU.

That's for sure. I really like that his dad made the trip and had a chance to see what ND is all about. I think ND is going to be tough to beat for his parents.

Davonte's highlight reel is one of few I can watch repeatedly. What a class of receivers it would be to add this kid in with DGB, Ferguson and Brown. I think one or two of these guys are going to get serious PT.

Those post-ov comments sound very promising. This guy is electrifying. I am blown away with his balance...he seems to be on his way down time after time and somehow gets his feet back under him and accelerates out of traffic like a Shelby Cobra! I would be pumped to see him added to our haul of WRs. He would compliment Greenberry, Brown and Ferguson very well.

Yeah, but how do you explain Kurt Warner marrying Alice from the Brady Bunch?

She's not that bad. Warner could certainly do better, but he's also a saint. Are you familiar with their story?

Edit: We've strayed far afield here. Time to get this thread back on track.

Agreed. Bottom line is I love Neal and want him to be Irish. AND by coming to ND, whether it's through football or a degree, he will make enough money to land a hot wife! Haha

It's been pretty widely reported that Neal is not considering Univ of Arizona or ASU, but I found this article from yesterday interesting.
Chaparral's Davonte' Neal: No interest in Arizona, Arizona State

A couple of new University of Arizona football assistant coaches came by Scottsdale Chaparral on Tuesday, hoping to find senior receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal. But Neal eluded the recruiters much like he did defenders during his All-Arizona season.

"I'm going out of state," Neal said about his college future.

Luke Neal, Davonte's father, said his son didn't want to meet with the UA coaches, because he has no interest in the school.

He also said his son has zero interest in Arizona State, no matter which coach the school brings in.

Neal, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, was a two-time Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year. This season, he was the only player in Arizona to have more than 1,000 yards both receiving and rushing. He also scored 35 touchdowns, helping leading Chaparral to a third consecutive Division II championship.

Neal said his recruiting trip to Notre Dame last weekend went well.

Basically said the visit was exhausting. Loved it, loved how they spent very little time talking about football and more time talking about the school/academics/etc., he's going to play in the UA All-American game and then finish taking visits. We'll be a player here until the end. Wants to get into Sports Broadcasting and met with professors (I'm assuming from the FTT department).

Should get him to meet with Mike Golic too hehe.

It's been said over and over again, but the sheer speed Kelly is bringing to the skill positions is just amazing (GAIII)

I wouldn't call it "amazing" speed, though.

True,

If we land a guy like Davonte to go along with Chris Brown, Darby, and Greenberry....

Well that's pure speed all over the field.

Not to mention they'll be taking lovely vacations to Camp Longo
