"Florida State is by far the best defense we will play all year," WR Michael Floyd said. They are big, quick and athletic. I will have to bring my A game. I want to go out with a bang and will do everything I can to make it happen." Irish RapidReports

I do wish we had Jonas. I'm anxious to see what team we are in the game, first half UM or second half UM? I'm also anxious to see what team they are in the game. This FSU team was closer to 9-3, 10-2, 11-1, hell even 12-0 than most would realize. Their biggest loss was a 10 point loss to OU.

Here are the highlights from FSUs last two games.

What I saw:

- Seriously athletic defense but I think we will be able to run on them.

- UFs QBs literally gave away their game to FSU by buckling under blitz pressure, fumbling and throwing awful interceptions.. Whoever it is, Tommy or Andrew, will have to rely on the run, protect the ball and take what FSU is giving. .. One down at a time and a heavy dose of Eifert and Floyd.

- Make no mistake about it, FSUs defense will have to win this game for them. EJ Manuel is as much of a liability as he is a threat. With Tuitt healty, Lynch, Nix and hopefully some blitzes dialed up from Diaco we should keep him off balance and turnover happy. They don't have a very impressive running attack besides Manuel running the option from time to time.. and we've had plenty of experience with that.

- This game comes down to how our QBs play against the speed of FSUs defense. If Tommy or Andrew come out and start throwing picks and fumbling the ball it's going to be a long evening. If we can get the running game established I think our defense keeps EJ in check and we come out a winner 24-13.

Certainly sounds like Rees. Both defensive lines should dominate, lets hope EJ is just as mistake prone.

Yea, I thought the same thing watching their defense. It seems like the perfect storm for one of those moments where my pops and I are yelling: "See!! I knew this was gonna happen! Awwww sh*t, get him the hell outta there.. This game is over, I don't know why I tune in week after week for this bullsh*t!!".. haha A classic ND fan, mid-game, irrational rant.

Let's hope Kelly preps with confidence and these guys get off to a good start... Rees or whoever.. I don't care. I just want to see execution.

This game is really starting to remind me of last years bowl. Big time match-up with history. Miami was supposed to be "SEC Fast" and we would struggle with their speed, now we're up against "SEC fast" FSU...

Miami was questionable at QB as to which Harris would show up, the athletic one or the mistake prone one. Now we're looking at EJ who is extremely athletic but also mistake prone.

Tommy Rees was the big question mark for ND last year. Would he come to play? Tommy Rees is still the big question mark for ND. If he has a good game, we can win this thing.

The pass rush was a major worry last year, and is again for this game. Miami had 37 sacks on the year, and FSU has 36.

I feel like we can find a lot of similarities between the two bowls. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's fairly interesting.

I also want to point out that we dominated last year, so I'm not worrying much. We are an extremely good football team. GO IRISH!

From BGI:

But it’s not the offense he’s (Jimbo Fischer) worried about. The Seminoles finished the regular season sixth in the nation in total defense, giving up just 274.6 yards per game, second against the run (74.92) and 18th defending the air (192.8). Fisher pointed out that it’s not the first time FSU will face a spread offense this season.

“Oh yeah, [we’ve seen that] a bunch,” he said. “It’s pretty simple."

This is not a valid reason to be confident about this year's game.

I'm thinking this will be a low-scoring game.

The cold temperatures worked in favor of the Irish not to mention losing their head coach. Miami was without a leader and looked miserable on the sidelines.

FSU Fan Base

Doing some reading "abroad" has reminded me that Florida State has one of the worst fan bases in the country.

If in the cases of our worst, we are arrogant and self-important, then at their worst they are ignorant, unsophisticated, petty, spiteful trash. Make that swamp trash.

Edit: One FSU poster wondering if they could grab up Cliff Harris and calling him, "the cheeze on the nachos" just made this toiling worthwhile.

I actually feel dumber from reading some of that (the tomahawknation crap)....
FSU fans are sooooo delusional and I would agree some what classless....check that very classless but in general to dumb to realize what that means. My neighbor/coworker here is a huuuuge diehard seminole fan! His comments on facebook after the Stanford game went like "Pretty uni's put ND cant score on Stanford?!?! They suck!" "Bring on Notre Lame!"....I can not mention the the pure joy I would feel seeing him Friday morning if we can play sound, turnover free football and put it on the Criminoles!!!!!!!!

The owner of our company is a Florida State Grad and Booster....I'd love nothing more than for ND to kick the crap out of FSU so the trash talking stops. I think what makes it worse is he's one of those guys that is really bad at talking trash, but I have to be nice because he signs my checks!

Kenny Shaw WR from FSU said this.

We expecting it to be a blowout but if it happens to be a tough fight we gonna get the job done.

Seminole All Access Post Practice

I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's like Jimbo claiming that NDs spread will be no problem to handle.

They're confident, like you would want your football team to be. It's up to ND to play mistake free and assert their dominance.

Blowing out ND would require a competent offense. How Shaw can be confident in that is beyond me.
