I wasn't talking about the number of quotes but only the idea that Chris's dad wants him to go to USC. Has anyone realized that maybe the majority of papers that mention anything hinting to that effect are from SC? What program wouldn't want in state athletes first and foremost! The way the Family explained it to me was the fact that their son has the ability to attend any school in the country....we only focus on FB on this site but his track offers are incredible. I have read several post that state his parents are not thinking about the educational factor of choosing ND but like I stated earlier.......the kid has offers from Stanford and Harvard for track, but they feel that ND gives him the best of both worlds.....enough said because all of that doesn't make a difference to you..... Live your life and enjoy your day. It just amazes me how some of my ND Brothers and Sisters are not as smart as I thought. I figured we were better than that!

I wouldn't get too overly worked up on what some posters/fans type or say on the topic of Chris' situation. These people, more often than not, don't represent the general fanbase which have nothing but best wishes for Chris. Whether it be on a football scholarship to ND or a track scholarship to Stanford, the bottom line is that we all hope he makes a decision that is best for him and his future. He will be supported either way.

Could everyone just get civilized and supportive for a while and be delighted that such a great young man and athlete has verballed to Notre Dame? None of this is ever about us, it's about these great young athletes and their families.

Go Chris Brown!! Hurray for you and your folks!! Notre Dame will treat you to the foundation of a wonderful fulfilling life in every dimension of significance. It IS The Place. YOU are The guy for it. THAT'S the only reality here.

How many football players have ran track as well for the Irish? I'm guessing this used to happen more than it does now? I would imagine that as long as there was a way for Chris to still make Spring practices that Kelly would have no problem, as he is still considering Golson for the basketball team. I believe he said there was criteria set for Everett and as long as those were met basketball would not be a problem.

IMO this kid is highly underrated by the sites and if he does come, he will be a FANTASTIC addition to this class. And if he were to decommit (starting to believe that WON'T happen), it will be a big loss.

Think about it...we NEED speed and athleticism on the perimeter, and this kid oozes it. So hell yeah I want this kid to come! Add to that he fell in love with his place and committed to the coaches pretty much on the spot when the chips were kinda down, and I'm really feeling this kid.

I haven't commented on this thread yet b/c I've been waiting for a non-South Carolina/Florida writer to write an article on Chris in which his dad was trying to get him out of ND, and I haven't seen it yet. When he talks to a ND reporter or a national scouting director and says those things, then I'll be worried.

Until then...we all know that families read these boards, so keep that in mind when posting. Welcome aboard Chris!!!

I seem to recall Autrey Denson as a star for the ND track team.

Google isn't helping me confirm this, however.

I figured the more popular college football becomes the less guys are doing other sports. Rainey is on the track team for the Gators, correct?

Rainey and Demps on Florida for certain. I think it depends on the player (how much he can handle, his desire to focus on just one sport or multiple). Probably also influenced to some degree on how much he plays and is of importance to the team, although by how much I have no idea.

At ND, your ability to handle your class load is obstacle #1 I would imagine.

I'm hoping everyone stays, personally. Maybe that is unrealistic, but there aren't any players in the class that I wouldn't want to see at ND. Here's hoping....

Notre Dame2012 clearly knows the kid's family. I don't think Chris is going anywhere, and to wish otherwise shows more faith in the recruiting services than in Kelly.

I'm glad he's Irish.

I don't think it is a good thing to vilify parents who make their opinions public about where their kids should go to university. Hey, if my kid had scholarship offers from all over the country like Chris Brown, I might very well prefer that he stay close to home too.

That being said, the source of these stories tend to come from SEC country and they might very well be twisting his Dad's words or taking comments out of context in order to stir up trouble.

In the end, I have to say that Chris Brown would be a great get. He seems underrated by the scouting services. We should all just relax about these rumors. If Notre Dame is the best fit for him (and his verbal commit surely indicates that he thinks it is) he will come.

Or his dad could be telling the local reporters what they want to hear to take some pressure off his son. Either way, good post.

I don't know Chris or his family, but I hope Chris does what is best for him and I'm sure that his family will ultimately support that. I think Notre Dame presents opportunities on and off the football field, that are truly unique.

Understood and I know the family better than anyone on this thread and Chris will be coming to Notre Dame. I can imagine how tough it must be for them to allow Chris to travel so far away. They have always supported him and his decision to attend ND......In fact prior to Chris actually commiting he called and had to explain to his father why! At that time a conference call was made with both Chris and both parents....they both were excited, so he convinced both of them that ND was the place he wanted to attend. Like I said, I personally know the family and they read the negative comments made by you all. So let's chalk this one up as a dead issue because they have......the only thing that they are worrying about is if Chris could keep his high school number at ND! Lol

Thanks for clearing things up, if he stays we are all really happy. I can understand where they are comming from, but I hope you and they understand why we felt a certain way. 'That when the dad makes comments like his commitment is like a handshake and that it doesnt mean anything, it makes us feel like we are being used.

I was born and raised in South Carolina and it's only Clemson or USC there!!! Anything other than that you would be considered a Benedict Arnold. When talking with the family Chris told me that the easy choice would be USC but he wanted a challenge! During the discussion his father explained to Chris that everyone from SC goes to either USC or Clemson to so call represent their particular town or county in SC but felt that Chris would be representing his entire State at ND! But needless to say your comment is actually correct. How would it look if Chris was to actually be among the best collegiate athletes in the nation and Clemson or USC didnt get him...... It wouldn't look good for the programs if they couldn't dominate recruiting in their own backyard. Later guys...Go Irish

That original comment was taken out of context. Mr. Brown was only stating that a verbal commitment when it comes to Recruiting is similar to a handshake in business. It's still a commitment but not legally binding without signing a letter of intent. Does it mean that he doesn't understand the principals of a handshake or a commitment? Not at all.....you guys took it and placed personal emotions into it. Was that wrong of you guys to feel that way? Again......not at all we are all human beings...... His father is just being protective over his son. And believe me when I say that Chris understands the decision he made and anticipates becoming part of the tradition.

Is he waiting from a offer from one of the big SEC schools FSU, or Miami? Also "my commitment is not set in stone" is a huge contradiction. Smh

Those schools are in the ACC. I think he pretty much has offers from every SEC school for both football and Track (both). People do not know but prior to taking the official visit to ND he visited Alabama and received an offer from them as well. Is that offer posted on any scouting site. Doubt it! The kid has seen just about all the schools he needed to see. But hey .....write and believe what you want it's cool.
