I am not trying to say that the hype is anywhere similar between Kiel and Clausen. No where have I said that. The argument was about who was a better prospect. I made the point that recruiting sites compare them favorably and that I personally thought that Kiel was is the better prospect out of high school. I think that he is physically better and has a bigger upside.
I am not arguing that Kiel has more "star power". I cannot think of a recruit with more pub than Clausen had. He also reveled in it, which only grew his persona. None of this stuff has anything to do with who I personally think is/was a better prospect or how recruiting sites compare their skill sets.
As far as the physical size argument, I have no idea how someone can say i'm wrong on that. Both of their measurables are well documented and Kiel is currently bigger than Clausen was at his age (In fact, I think he is bigger than Clausen currently as well).
* I never said Jimmy was a bigger star physically. You misread what I wrote. Also, I never said Jimmy was a bigger star according to the rankings. You took it there. Read my post again - I said Jimmy was a bigger star, which you conceded. So basically, you're arguing against yourself. I mean, not one person has argued that Clausen is bigger physically, but you've argued it in 2 different posts as if you can't believe we are arguing against you on this. We're not.
* I'll believe this until the day I die - at this point in their careers (when they were juniors), Jimmy Clausen was a better, more highly sought-after prospect than Gunner Kiel, and really, it's not even that close. I followed his recruitment closely as he was a local; I mean, they were writing articles on him since the 8th grade. EVERYBODY wanted Jimmy Clausen. I mean every program in the nation, and it started young. I believe it was Spurrier who wrote him a hand-written message in like the 8th grade, trying to get him to eventually sign with him. Arguable the best QB coach in the country said he was the best prospect he had ever seen. SI did a huge write-up on him for their magazine. I looked him up, and the praise was rampant. I read things like, "Clausen is as mechanically developed as any quarterback in the last decade" and “once in a decade quarterback talent." Where do you hear that with Kiel?
As for Clausen's ranking, Rivals, which you have lauded in the past, had him as the top ranked overall prospect, and raved about him. Kiel is ranked #19 overall, not even 5 stars. That's a big disparity, and it's from the site that you think is the best at rating players.
* If you want to think Kiel is the better prospect, that's fine. But you are in the minority on that. Not just here, but by pretty much everyone that gets paid to follow recruiting as well. And to another poster's point: Clausen did it on the college level already in record-breaking fashion; Kiel hasn't even played his senior season in high school yet, and hasn't been dominant in camps this summer.
* Oh, and who is dogging on Kiel? I haven't seen it, and if it is here it was written by maybe one person. I'd be saying the same exact things if Kiel were to sign w/ ND (which would make me very happy). Praising Clausen doesn't mean we are dogging Kiel - not at all...
