Depending on the record/circumstances surrounding these teams at the time of the game this could be the most critical game for the irish since the early 90's. Not saying it will or will not happen, but if the Irish happen to march into this weekend undefeated, then reel off an impressive win in front of a sideline packed with top notch, elite, program changing recruits, the rewards could shape where the program is headed under BK for the next 10 years.
Even a one loss ND coming in and winning this game in impressive fashion would signal to recruits that BK is the real deal and ND is going to be a National Championship player in short order.

Additionally, it would be nice to take back to back games against the women of Troy and send USC sputtering to another sub par season.

Oh did I mention I'll be there, and it'll be the first game I have been to since Utah last year and I still have the competitive juices simmering in my bloodstream from that weekend. Dammit the season can't get here fast enough. It would be AWESOME to see ND come into USC weekend with a BCS game still in play.

Chill out with the excitement. It's things like this that get me so anxious for the season to start, the month of August feels like it lasts for 100 days! This game in particular is so important.

Looking at SUC's schedule, they very well could be undefeated going into South Bend. Their toughest game is against Utah. How epic would it be if we were both top 10 teams and then we absolute destroy them because they haven't played anyone yet

USC's Junior Pomee out for season with broken foot - ESPN Los Angeles

By Pedro Moura
Special to ESPNLosAngeles.com

-- University of Southern California tight end Junior Pomee broke his foot during a Trojans scrimmage Sunday and will miss the 2011 season, coach Lane Kiffin said Tuesday.

...

Over the summer, USC moved longtime tight end Rhett Ellison to fullback, where he's slated to start. But with Pomee now out for the year and sophomore Christian Thomas struggling to stay healthy, the Trojans moved senior linebacker Ross Cumming to the tight end spot in practice Tuesday, where he could provide depth.

The Trojans' top two players at the position as of now are redshirt freshmen Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer. Ellison could also move back to fullback at any time.

As a true freshman Pomee (Steele's #23 TE) probably wasn't going to be a Rudolph for Southern Cal. But his abscence couple with the scholarship crunch is forcing Kiffen to scramble. Steele's College Preview had Ellison as the Starting TE. Grimble (Steele #1 TE) at 6-6 245 will fill the Starter's spot but there's little depth behind him.

Steele lists Southern Cal with a 1 pt edge over Utah in his power poll. This game is in L.A.

Two weeks later the Trojans play ASU who Steele lists as 5 pts better than the Trojans. That game will be in Tempe.

Right now Steele has the Trojans about 8 better than CAL in his power poll. That game is in Berkeley and should be physical the week before they travel to South Bend.

That looks pretty good for us! They have a tough, physical game in Berkeley and we have a bye week. I think this is the first time in a lot of years we have had a bye week before SC. Usually they are the ones with two weeks to prepare for our game, it seems.

Giving Kelley and Co. two weeks to prepare for a team sounds good to me!

Dr. Saturday's BlogPoll Countdown, 16-20.

18. USC. The Trojans' fortunes nose-dived last season around mid-October, right alongside their starting quarterback's: In the span of five games, Matt Barkley plummeted from one of the most productive, efficient passers in the country to just another guy who couldn't hold a candle to Andrew Luck. Taken as a whole, though, 2010

was a clear step forward for Barkley over his freshman debut in 2009 — both on paper and in his comfort level in Lane Kiffin's offense as opposed to Jeremy Bates' — and Year Three is traditionally the year the rubber meets the road for NFL-bound pocket types like Jimmy Clausen, Mark Sanchez, Matt Stafford, Josh Freeman, Matt Ryan, JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, all of whom emerged as first-rounders with breakout junior campaigns. Given Barkley's arm, experience, and abundance of talent at wide receiver, the Trojan passing game could be frightening.

The defense? Well, not so much, unless junior bookends Nick Perry and Devon Kennard generate enough heat in the pass rush to compensate for a very flammable secondary. Even then, there are more than enough questions — most of them about the revamped offensive line's ability to keep the running game viable and Barkley upright — to keep SC simmering on the back burner as it plays out the string under NCAA sanctions.

Only my third game ever, have not ever been able to stay very close to south bend. Any ideas on how to get a room within fifteen miles without paying three hundred plus a night?

Last year, my wife and I stayed at the Super 8 in Mishawaka. it is old, but it is clean and there is a Five Guys right across the road! Short drive to campus too.

I don't know about drinks, but normally a few trojans players get together behind their hotel night before the game and do massive amounts of crack and blow

USC's Abe Markowitz out for the season with a broken foot.

USC has given three different players at left guard the starting nod in the season's first three games. Junior-college transfer Jeremy Galten started the opener, senior Martin Coleman started against Utah and freshman Marcus Martin made his debut against Syracuse last week.

It appears Martin will start Saturday in the Trojans' first road game at Arizona State.

Our DL is going to run rampant against USC's OL. Almost makes me feel bad for Barkley. Almost.

They should just make their LTs nickname "Lynch Lunch".. It's gonna be a long day for whatever one of those sad bass-turds starts.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Their left tackle Matt Kalil is considered by many to be the best tackle prospect in next year's draft.

McMurphyCBS via Twitter:

USC QB Matt Barkley reprimanded by Pac-12 for derogatory & inflammatory comments last week about Arizona State

slmandel via Twitter:

The Pac-12 has reprimanded Matt Barkley for calling Vontaze Burfict a dirty player. Guess it will keep reprimanding Burfict 15 yds at a time
