Why not keep him in the backfield at that point? These speed/finesse guys will always benefit from a change-of-pace bruiser, no?

Its probably because he's so tall, but his stride looks so long and he does not look particualrly quick (he's obviously fast considering his 40 time). He also does not protect the ball all the time.

HOWEVER, there are very few running backs that run with a true, bona-fide mean-streak. This kid looks like he takes getting tackled very personally and his speed and strength make it look painful to try. I love watching his tape! Whereas Hughes and Gray both had to be motivated to run through people (God love them both), that would clearly no be an issue here. He has a little bit of the Bus in him in that regard. He seems to pursue and tackle with the same intensity.

As long as this is a good kid (and the offer suggests he is), I want a kid like this practicing on my team, regardless of who ends up playing. Sign him up!

Amen! What Hughes did in the SC game is proof positive enough for me! Correction- what Cierre and Hughes did as a combination is proof positive enough for me!

Who knew you could dominate a USC defense with a single back power running game out of the shotgun? Not a common sight...

The future does look bright...

Irish in st. pete...chill man...
seriously
It's the dead season for college football...all we have to talk about is recruiting for 91 days.

WOW....I see some of you guys took up following recruiting in depth to try to keep you busy til season starts like I did. I keep having to remind myself not to read too much into anyhting because all we have to go on is measueables stats and articles based on what other people think about these kids. This seems to be Kellys forte so if they offered and keep the offer actionable they want him for a reason....who cares what the reason is? i drove myself crazy last year trying to figure everything out.

Only "shocker" I could see would be Michigan State... wouldn't be too crazy though considering he is originally from Michigan. I think he's just having some fun with us though. That last one was hilarious.

Announcing Tues. Seems like his final 5 might have changed some. Picking from Cuse, ND, Tenn, Iowa, Miss St.

Dear David Perkins,
Tuesday is my 28th birthday.
I would love for you to give me the greatest gift a high school football player can, go to the University of Notre Dame.

Brian Kelly, from you I would like a National Championship in the next few years.

That is all.
Thank you.

Miss St under consideration is a shocker by itself.

38 games under .500 All-Time, clanging cow bells, ... Starkville.

If Dan Mullen has another 9 win season, Starkville will be in his rear view mirror.

Just as an aside, "Happy Birthday!"

I just finished calling my second son, today the sixth, is his birthday, next Tuesday is mine, and the following Tuesday is my oldest son's birthday. Maybe we could all add a little support to your request.

PS, this is one of those kids that has a ton of "developmental potential." You know more like Justin Tuck than . . .

WSBT reporting that a source says he is going to announce ND tomorrow!!!

"@davidmccoywsbt: #NotreDame football to get verbal commitment from SB Washington's David Perkins at Tues announcement, source tells WSBT. He'll be ND's 10th"

Source: SB Washington's Perkins to choose Notre Dame - wsbt.com

Announcement is at 11:20 tomorrow btw.

I'm not shocked. When he immediately said he would announce right after getting offered by us that told me all I needed to know. I would be shocked if it was anyone but notre dame. This kid has a ton of upside.

On the bright side, if we don't land Perkins now we can 100% blame GoldenIsThyFame for jinxing it.

Ha no you can blame David McCoy from the WSBT. He is the one that posted the tweet and article.

I will blame you for bringing up the jinx and thereby causing the jinx to actually happen.

Early in this thread someone said ND's recruiting him as a RB when it seems most scouting services believe he'll excel at OLB; some WR... Is he still a RB if he comes to ND?

I'm sure Kelly would say he is a "skill" guy. Maybe, possibly, could be a "big-skill" guy. But I bet his eventual position is yet to be determined.

Arnold on "Skill" recruits.

Arnold on "Big Skill" recruits.

Anyway, good news if the source is correct. I'm still going to let it play out tomorrow before I go overboard with my enthusiasm. I know people love breaking stories, but part of me wishes these kids would get the chance to make the announcement themselves. I guess it is partially their fault if they can't keep potential "sources" from contacting reporters, though.
