A piece on the findings in the Declan Sullivan tragedy was followed by a piece on ND football. 10 wins projected. debuting their top 25 right now...

I dont care if we start off ranked, if we are good enough to be ranked when the season starts we will be there. To me preseason rankings are kinda half meaningless.

I am not saying we are a top 20 team right now... Im just guessing that is where they will put us. Every other ranking has us in the 15-20 range

I don't care about preseason rankings at all, but I wouldn't call being ranked 18th or something in a preseason poll "lofty expactations."

If an expectation of being the 18th best team in the country is too much pressure to deal with, then we are a lot farther away from where want to be than I think we are.

Personally I think think they should do all Polls like the BCS and not even have them until a few weeks into the season. But I guess if people are ranking ND it's a good sign. But I remember people on ESPN predicting 9 wins last year.

We were ranked #23 in 2009.
And #2 (or 3...or 4...cannot remember) in 2006.

Personally, I'd rather we start off not ranked and make the polls with our on-the-field production and not our preseason expectations.

Great. More lofty expectations.

Change. The. Expectations.

Can you imagine Crist running into the Gug with the first preseason AP poll with the Irish at No. 17 and the team getting all down on themselves because of the lofty expectations?

Alright, I get it. Overreaction. Call it Overreaction #1 this season.

Still, 16-18 is too high.

Agree with Riddick wholeheartedly. Part of the reason some people hate ND so much is the repeatedly high pre-season rankings that are unwarranted. Say what you want about how last year ended, the fact remains that team lost 2 games to what were essentially mid-majors, and 5 overall. A #21-25 ranking is definitely arguable both ways, but anything higher than that at this point isn't IMO.

win the first three games then worry about ranking... fail to win all three and our ranking will never really matter this year anyway.

The program was pretty ND friendly. The coverage of the Sullivan situation was accurate, fair, and not overdone, even by Joe Schad. The talk about the football team was positive by Robert Smith, who liked the direction that Kelly was taking the defense. The comments by Jesse Palmer approximated a rave revue.

He is the one who suggested 10 wins to the surprise of Smith and the moderator. The moderator challenged him with a list of six or seven really tough games on our schedule and said "I don't see where you see ten wins". Palmer replied that he didn't see ANY game on the schedule where he felt you could not make a case that ND would win. And he made his previous remarks about "year two being the year that Coach Kelly's team will make its biggest strides". All-in-all a nice upbeat treatment of us by ESPN, largely due to Palmer. Now we have to back it up.

We're returning a crap load of players and we are easily a top 15 team in terms of talent. If ESPN has us at #14 you know people recognize how good we can be.

My issue is people saying, well it's somehow better if we're ranked in the 20's so that other people don't hate ND so much. Screw them. At some point we're going to live up to our expectations and talent level.

But unlike College Bball where the rankings really do not matter...as football fans we all know it does (see TCU), if we do have a special 10 win season, we will end up with a better bowl if we start the year ranked closer to 15 than 25...screwed up system.

I would way prefer to enter the Season unranked! I'm sick of all the hype and than just nose diving the season...front of ESPN Mag .."The Rise Of ND" Ranked #3 ...please.
Just let us start the season and prove OURSELVES.

I'm with Bo, OMM and you Rocket. Who cares what others say. I am sure the team doesn't. They know they've got a job to do! That is the difference between this regime and last, and that is some of the crap you saw working its way out last fall. Life is a lot simpler for the Irish this year. Hey, did I tell you I had a wonderful experience with the team at the B&G Game? It illustrates the point, too. Maybe I will thread it later if I get a chance.

Andre Ware says we are in for a ten win season on College Football Blitz this morning. Plenty of coverage on the Irish lately. Me like.
