Defense looked pretty scary across the front in all three groups...Yikes

its funny to see the third group of o-lineman...they always look tall and skinny.

BK said after practice that Eiffert, Spond, Shembo and Blanton were the individuals that really stood out to him in practice.

I think BK secretly has a man crush on Eifert. Which is fine with me he needs to have a big year for us.

Eifert is always mentioned when Kelly is asked for standouts in practice, so this isn't very farfetched.

Interesting...Spond could take that OLB spot.

Good to see both Spond and Shembo being praised for their work, as they are competing at the same position right now, the Dog. Competition breeds excellence (or success). Was interesting to see Filer with the 2nd team at Cat though, instead of pushing for Dog. Maybe that was just in an effort to get the other 2 comfortable learning a new position. I really hope the light turns on for Filer this year.

Shembo is in an odd spot. Fleming has his spot on lockdown and that seems to be Shembo's natural position. After Fleming graduates he will have to beat out Ishaq for that spot.

The other OLB position seems a better fit for a more agile guy like Filer, Spond or Councell (when he gets on campus). Am I making a bad assumption that Shembo is more of a bull and pure beastly pass rusher? Does he actually have a better skillset for the position opposite Fleming?

Not rhetorical questions, looking for insight.

I thought the same initially as well, but BK loves the fact that Shembo is so physical and can really reroute a reciever coming off the line. A lot of people noted today how great Shembo looks physically - to the point where he looked as developed if not more so then Filer and Fleming. I would assume the Shembo has the necessary athleticism to drop and cover if BK is so intent on seeing him at Dog, combined with the aforementioned jamming and rerouting ability. Spond is really intriguing though, and the staff loves him. Should be a great competition.

This is what I love about what Kelly is doing, making practice as competitive as games. A lot of what made Carrol successful at SC was the unreal competition at practice. Guys know they have to perform in practice because there are guys that are fighting to take their spot if they don't.

For some reason I also see Shembo more at the Cat position, but whatever BK thinks is best.

For some reason I really like Spond...Don't know why, maybe because he is so versatile. Kid could play the Dog position, ILB and drop weight and play safety, plus he was a QB.

Yeah same with me, shembo seems to be physical enough for the cat. The dude is built like a brick house thats for sure

Tommy looks like he bulked up a little, but just a little. I'm pretty confident whoever makes it out of our QB battle.

I can't stress how excited I am that we have depth along the interior of the offense and defense. We're thin in the secondary and at running back, which isn't great, but man am I excited about a fresh player along the DLine all game.

We need to start recruiting some of those guys from the swamp who catch gators. That's my big take away from that video.
