IMO they throw multiple looks at Mensah. Toney lines up in the slot mainly but also field. I think you will see Moore cover him in the slot at times, particularly in trips. He will naturally get McKinney at times. He will get Gray. They will play man and zone. Covering Toney itself should be about just playing the short stuff, defending Miami as a whole means throwing a ton at Mensah. If he gets Gray in man coverage, the priority becomes pass rush as much as the back end. He can’t have time to run across the field. The man beater stuff we saw against Purdue and UNC they have rules how they pass it off or not, to varying success in the two games.

I don’t think we’ve seen McKinney take basically any snaps proactively lined up on a slot. It’s usually a motion or trips look that created it.

IMO they vary coverage and execute it at a completely different level than they did Week 1 2025. They frankly couldn’t execute a basic cover 3 that day.

Mensah gets the ball out as fast or faster than anyone in CFB. I wonder if this is a rush 4 and find a way home game, not a blitz heavy game.

Why i like Tae playing nickel. He can rob some of those short throws

Warren had 215 yards throwing against Miami. Miami also only averaged 3.8 yards per rush

Is it fair to say this matchup is the biggest home Notre Dame game (assuming we win next week) since the 1993 ND vs FSU game?

I would go that way because we were coming off years of contending for NCs
we had not got the reputation for folding in big games like we did after Lou was gone
We sort of laid some of that to rest with our Playoff Run in 2024 but we still lost the NC game

But as regards a home game yes this would be the most important since then.

We have had other games just as big in the past years. Even usc 2005 was bigger

wrong
2005 was a big game but we had already lost a game and were not ranked if I remember. Or were low ranked.
This game is like 1993 because as long as both of us take care of business the next couple of weeks. It will be #2 vs #3 plus the history of the series. Way bigger than 2005

This. Forget anything you've heard, that '05 game was huge. Yeah, we had lost a close one to MSU earlier that season, but the energy in the stadium for USC was different. I've been going to games since '93, I've never heard that stadium louder than '05 USC and I haven't since (Although there's been a few close ones. '23 OSU comes to mind).

The Miami game is going to be insane.

-The students have been chanted Fuck Miami since Rice
-Miami isn't going to be able to have a large presence in the stands
-They have to be planning something big for Lou...or they better be, because so far you wouldn't even know he passed because there's been nothing about it (sticker excluded)
-Leave No Doubt

Obviously gotta take care of business before the Miami game, but is there a chance that beating #3 Miami earns ND the #1 spot in the poll? The first CFB Playoff ranking is released the Tuesday prior if Google is correct
