While I’m sure he’s enjoying his vacation, that being the sole cause is so easy to stop day 1 from this swirling. All the beat has to do is put that out there and they haven’t, so while that may be true that is not the case.

I think the idea - which some NFL writer put forth the other day - that Freeman has no intention of leaving but wants to interview with NFL teams as practice/learning for the future makes a lot of sense. And maybe (hopefully) that has been communicated internally, which would help explain why you don't see assistant coaches leaving or more players hitting the portal.

But he can't very well put that out into the public, can he? And so it will not ease any worried minds around here.

The same beat that doesn’t know the difference between their ass and elbow lately?

The purpose of the beat is to get clicks on articles. Saying Freeman is on vacation is not going to get clicks.

Until you consider the recruiting ramifications of that move. Recruiting is cutthroat and ruthless. Rival staffs would use Freeman interviewing with NFL teams as a wedge with recruits. "Why would you want to go to ND when their HC is already interviewing with NFL teams. He's not going to be there to coach & develop you!"

If ND and OSU were battling for a 5 star WR, and Ryan Day was interviewing with NFL jobs. Do you think ND wouldn't mention it (often)?

Trying to help us get back on the right side of things (yes, it all bothers me too, this isn’t aimed at you personally):

Isn’t it a dead period until 1/1? No contact allowed?

I think after how everything played out at end of season. Everyone is just ready for some kind of waiting for that breaking news moment of something positive for notre dame and obviously mfmf announcing or extending contract Is best case scenario. Feel of a momentum change from how things fell out from under us all. I think everything is fine. But some reassurance would be a blessing

Think it would be a nice touch also if he stood outside the Gug and fans could line up for free hugs.

Not one report that I've seen says that freeman has actually had discussions. It all says teams are interested and he'll have an opportunity if he wants it.

You should definitely panic and consider the off-season ruined.

Maybe it’s the last 38 years of being an ND fan, but I’m just programmed to expect the worst possible scenario to come to fruition and then I can be pleasantly surprised when literally anything better than that happens.

I get it.

But I am trying to look at this differently. Everything that Freeman stands for is different than what we are used, too. I am willing to give him the opportunity.

Prister just now: “firmly believe he will be the coach in 2026 and announcement will be soon.”
Prister back in August: "Kenny Minchey will be the starting quarterback to start the 2025 season."

Not saying that I think Freeman is leaving for the NFL. But I am absolutely saying that I have less than zero faith in the beat.
