I've read that Dia Bell would def. decommit from Texas if this happens, and maybe ND would take a run at him, but all conjecture at this point,
If I knew with 100% certainty that he would wait potentially 2 years to start, I would absolutely lose my mind that we got him.

I just can't see it happening though.

This is the part that I dont get. Is Kiffen even a good coach? Has he ever won anything?
He’s funny. If he was just another stale personality, no way would UF want him this bad solely based on resume.

At first glance, I am going to say yes despite the lack of accolades other than 2 of the 3 years at FAU.

He's won 54 games at Ole Miss. Third most ever in their program history. This is year six at Ole Miss and it's his fourth with double digit wins.

I assume people are seeing what he's doing there and hold him in high regard. Ole Miss isn't LSU, Florida, PSU, etc. He has certainly had a Lazarus like rise as a head coach considering how hard he crashed out of USC. He did well at FAU and has now been solid at Ole Miss. I assume that Florida and LSU feel with their brand and resources he can do well. He's been a good recruiter going back to his days as an assistant under Poodle.

If he is or isn't a good coach, we find out in this next move one way or another most likely.

I would say Kiffin is a good HC, but can he win a title? That's less certain, but it's hard to do. People have gotten used to what he's doing at Ole Miss, but that is a function of Lane having totally elevated that program. Ole Miss is not a program that can just expect perennial 10 win seasons and he has basically made that a norm there.

He’s clearly good. Is he $15 million a year good? Obviously not based on his track record. Does it matter since it’s all just other people’s money? Probably not. I really want to see him in a playoff situation.

They may have not been that level of program in the past, but NIL has changed these programs. Ole Miss has spent a ton of money the last few years.

Yeah, but OM is where they're at because of Lane. They have invested a lot of money, sure, but that is just the standard now. Their team talent composition even with Lane's success is still only 21st. Florida, having sucked for 15 years now, is at 12. There are tiers to this.

You can spend your way into the playoffs. Indiana proved that last year. Texas Tech and Ole Miss are this year.

I’m not sure you can spend your way to a national championship if you don’t have the recruiting, development, coaching and other pieces in place. Winning four playoff games takes the depth and talent and resources you find only at the Ohio States and Georgia’s and (hopefully) Notre Dames of the sport.

Maybe some nouveau riche mid-major will do it eventually but I wouldn’t bet on Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss to be the first.

The market is ridiculous, yes, but he's only dictating so much of that at the moment.

He's also employed Maurice Crum Jr and Charlie Weis Jr. I think Lane Kiffin knows, deep down inside, what's up.

From 2 days ago. This is what Lane feels he can't get at Ole Miss that he can at UF.

It won't be about money or NIL/admin support. That will be pretty close wherever he goes.

Yeah, Ole Miss has been having to beg their fans to fill up VHS which is pretty embarrassing considering they're in the thick of a playoff run in the midst of a great 6 year run there.

Never been to a game at Ole Miss, and probably mostly only watched big ones. I thought they had a good atmosphere. Or is that really just more about the tailgating scene?

But also: To ask a guy who has been head coach at USC about Ole Miss being a blue blood...

He's complained about attendance every year for at least 4 years.

Their average attendance last year exceeded the capacity of the stadium by like 3,000. Do people just show up late/leave early?

That's part of it, yes, but I think there's some creative counting going on, too, a la Nebraska.

Here's an article from 2022 where he was bitching about fans arriving late and leaving early. Like you alluded to earlier, the party is a bigger deal than the game itself.

There is going to be two schools out of the 3 for Lane that are going to have a nuclear meltdown when he makes his final decision lol.

Any macroeconomic factors playing into this? They're a state of just under 3 million people.

He supposedly played footsie with UCF a year ago, right?

Riley was a hot name on the NFL coaching board there for a bit. Now he's being linked with UCF and Baylor. Weird.

From what I remember, UCF kicked the tires, but it was never reciprocated by Riley.

Does anyone think Ole Miss AD and Board could actually do this out of frustration with Kiffin's lack of transparency and to protect the program which could be left hanging dangerously without a HC in late December or January?

Ole Miss Could Fire Lane Kiffin Before College Football Playoff

I don't remember the details around Kiffin being fired by The Raiders in the NFL but apparently one reason was his "lack of concern for his contract with the team."
