I don't understand this. Jack could not have stopped them from going with Kelly if they wanted to do that.
No, not if that's what they wanted. But, once aware of the threat, he very much could make it clear to them that Notre Dame valued them and their contributions and made it worthwhile for them to stay, vs. wanting to leave. Which is more or less what happened.

His agent/attorney drafted every word. You think that lazy PoS was going to write anything?
While I never discount his laziness, the main reason Trace Armstrong would write that is because you can't risk BK saying something stupid in writing that costs them both millions of dollars. If that happened, BK would be getting an an email from Trace with the subject line "RE: Your Execution: I'm in favor of it."

Given the valediction is "Best", it was probably a young paralegal or legal assistant who wrote it. I'm just guessing but wonder why he wouldn't have his attorney send it?

If he is considering getting another P4 coaching job ever again, it's best that he keep things professional. People talk.

Can someone find the one he wrote to ND or Cincinnati fans after leaving? I can’t locate it. Feel like someone professional would have posted that one on Twitter too.

Dude is the most insincere, self-serving jackass ever.

This was done simply to plot his next move. He only cares this time because he didn’t leave on his own.

I think the one he voiced for the ND departure was tough to tell what he was saying. I mean he did have a mouth full of burnt ends when the story broke.

Gosh, who could have seen this coming?

LSU and Brian Kelly are at odds over his contract buyout, and his reps have set a deadline

Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly has requested that the school pay his full buyout of nearly $54 million, according to documents obtained by The Advocate, as negotiations continue two weeks after he was fired during his fourth season.

In a Nov. 5 letter sent to LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry and LSU Board of Supervisors member John Carmouche, Kelly’s attorneys asked for written confirmation by 5 p.m. on Monday that LSU will "fulfill its contractual obligation" to pay the full sum.

“Absent this written confirmation by that date, Coach Kelly will pursue all available legal remedies,” the letter states.

Kelly is owed nearly $54 million if fired without cause, a sum that would be paid in equal monthly installments through the end of his contract in 2031. Kelly's attorneys claimed in documents that LSU fired him without cause, in which case Kelly is owed 90% of his remaining annual compensation under the terms of the deal.

The letter states Kelly would still be "open to any additional offers" to settle if he receives the written confirmation that LSU will abide by the contract for a firing without cause.

LSU offered lump-sum payments of $25 million and $30 million the day Kelly was fired, documents said, but Kelly rejected them. They were made when Scott Woodward was still LSU’s athletic director. He and the school parted four days later.

I wonder if they could potentially get him for insubordination? He was instructed by the then AD, Scott Woodward, to fire Joe Sloan (OC). Kelly wouldn't and in response, he was terminated.

They already said he was fired w/o cause.

LSU would lose so fast if they tried that shit in court.

I'm not sure if anyone truly knows what was said.

The rumor going around on the days following his firing was that Woodward wanted him to fire the OC and BK said fine, but I'm firing the OL coach as well.

Evidently Woodward was tight with the OL coach.

I don't know if this actually happened. Even if it did happen, what was BK's intent? Was he trying to get fired? Was he pointing out that the OL coach was equally responsible for the poor offensive performance and it's only fair he gets fired too?

I'm sure you are more plugged in on this topic than anyone on this board.

I dis like Kelly but to be fair I would do the same thing. You signed this deal just like I did. Give me my money.

I actually hope this hurts the LSU program.
Yep. LSU’s probably trying to shame/embarrass him into taking less money. But they signed this thing. He probably doesn’t leave Notre Dame in the first place without the 10-year guarantee.

Obviously don't care for BK, but in this case I hope he wins. They offered him the money and fired him with a winning percentage north of .700. They better have to pay every single penny.

Actually more tame than I was expecting
I think people tone down some of the verbiage when emailing decision makers.

Good question. I'm not too sure if Woodward is close to Brad Davis (both are from Baton Rouge). Davis, however, definitely deserves to be let go...the offensive line he assembled is one of the worst that I've seen.

Maybe LSU is holding out on his duty to mitigate (i.e., get another job)? He's only 64 y/o. His payout is for approximately 6 years. He can easily get another job (UCLA, Penn State, Stanford, perhaps BC if it comes available, media). Now, will he want to...? I think this last go around crushed him and his ego.

lolz. Here take half because we want you to.
Well, there's the whole time value of money and inflation factors to take into account. I'm not saying I'd do it .... I think I could handle $800,000 being direct deposited monthly over approximately 6 years. But, again, he'd get a hefty lump sum up front and he could be done with it all (i.e., the duty to mitigate, LSU, etc.). Not too bad to have $25MM hit your account and ride off into the Boston sunset...

I would think that a public spat between LSU and BK would harm LSU far more than BK.

I truly believe BK doesn't care if he ever coaches again.

LSU would have to hire a new coach under the umbrella of a public spat where it comes across as LSU choosing not to honor contracts. But hey, please come coach our team.
