Not necessarily.

"LSU could also fire Kelly without having to buy his assistants out of their contracts. All coaches on his staff signed deals with clauses that free the athletic department from paying the full cost of their buyouts, whether Kelly is no longer LSU’s head coach or if they leave the program to take other jobs."

This could also lend credence to the rumor he offered up his staff to save himself because there were rumors and reporting earlier in the day that some guys on the offensive side were being let go. If they are planning on firing Kelly, it makes sense to not let him do that because then they have to pay the full buyout as opposed to none or a lesser amount if it happens after they fire Kelly.

I would bet a lot of money that reporter is confused. Those are 2 different things with different buyouts.

At this point, you’d think BK wants out — he doesn’t want to coach out his contract. Hopefully he can agree to a reduced buyout and part ways

Fans say that kind of dumb shit all the time, "If he had any integrity, he'd resign."

Motherfucker, if you had any integrity, you'd pay him according to the terms of the contract.

I think he'll actually just volunteer to give his money back and then when he goes to a new school he'll only say positive things!

...be still my heart.

I wonder what would happen if a state started levying special taxes on citizens to help offset the cost of buyouts?

The governor in La may be the sticking point since he has already on record as opposing the amount of $ being spent on LSU athletics. Can't see him in favor of forking out Kelly's buyout as it is.

LSU has been a state budget discussion multiple times.

Is the 50 mill similar to Franklin where he has to look for a new coaching gig? Maybe he takes 25 million straight up no requirements

Brian Kelly, if not already will be the most disgraced coach, maybe of all time. And he is NDs most Win’d coach. What a stain.

“LSU athletic director Scott Woodward wanted Kelly to make staff changes, including firing offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, to try to fix an offense that ranks last in the SEC in rushing yards per game. However, when Kelly and Woodward met Sunday afternoon, things got very tense. After Woodward told the head coach to fire his play caller, Kelly fired back that he wanted to make other staff moves Woodward wasn’t comfortable with. The situation then escalated, with the head coach pushing back hard against his boss.”

Not sure who he would want to fire that would be contentious besides Frank Wilson, his likely interim replacement.

LSU 247 with just a completely other story from Feldman FWIW:

“Talking with sources this morning, Kelly was prepared to make changes on the offensive side of the ball, most notably offensive coordinator Joe Sloan. Kelly was told to hold off on those moves and that's when the conversation shifted towards him being the one on the way out.”
