At least a dozen LSU Twitter accounts I’ve seen have posted some version of a “stay tuned” within an hour or two ago, before the media flurry just now.

Without a President, apparently the Governor and boosters are making this call. Seems more likely to result in a rash (right or wrong) decision due to that.
The governor in La may be the sticking point since he has already on record as opposing the amount of $ being spent on LSU athletics. Can't see him in favor of forking out Kelly's buyout as it is.

- There is an informal meeting of the Board of Supervisors which has been going on pretty much all day.

- At that meeting, Brian Kelly offered to fire Joe Sloan to keep his job.

- That offer was rejected.

- Now the discussion involves how much of Kelly's buyout will actually be paid. It won't be $53 million. That's untenable. The number will go considerably lower.

- The additional question now is about Scott Woodward. His support on the board - and above the board - is in a state of collapse. The reason it's crazy right now is the entire leadership structure is a vacuum because there is no permanent president to make the call on these decisions.

- Wednesday, the presidential search committee is supposed to release their recommendation on a new hire. That recommendation, unless something crazy happens, will be Wade Rousse, who is the president at McNeese. Rousse would be confirmed by the Board of Supervisors on Nov. 4 at their meeting, with an official start date of Jan. 1.

- Rousseau would effectively assume control on Nov. 4 and the coaching search would begin then. Scott Woodward, regardless if he keeps his job now, will not have anything to do with the next hire.

These are the things I know. There is a degree of fluidity to this, so I grant that some of this could be wrong.

But Kelly will be bought out. It's not known for how much. It'll be much less than $53 million though.

I've heard Frank Wilson would be the interim. If there is an interim and this isn't a deal where Kelly finishes the season before he's gone, it will be Wilson.

No idea who they'd look at as the next head coach, but it'll definitely be somebody younger and LSU will never put itself on the hook for some 10 year deal again. That I know - the powers that be are adamant about it. The job is VERY marketable right now, but we aren't going to go with a "big-name" Scott Woodward hire. I'm told we want to find somebody energetic and on the way up.

This is from a poster but LSU 247 staff posted “this is similar to what we’ve been hearing throughout the day”

I don't know who their Governor is but I would think that standing in the way of getting rid of him would probably not be politically popular.

I would think he is pressuring Kelly to take a reduced buyout. Kelly can say no.

Maybe that have some Kompromat?

Not enough to fire him with cause but enough to make him look bad to schools that might consider hiring him if the information was public?

Use it to blackmail him into taking a lower buyout.

Idk... that's all I can come up with.

How can they not pay Kelly the full buyout? Unless Kelly agrees to less money.
There are probably various things they can offer him to get the number down. Like, for Sam Pittman, they negotiated a lower number in exchange for getting rid of the duty to mitigate, which appealed to Pittman because he essentially said he wanted to retire to his lake house after that job.

That reduced $10 to like $7.5 and Pittman loved Arkansas. Even in a similar scenario which it shouldn’t be, you’re talking a large #

Maybe they can pull some strings and get him a membership at Augusta in exchange for a reduced buyout.

Blake Baker is also the highest paid DC in CFB. Unless he’s retained (not happening), $53 million isn’t the end of the bill

I went last night with a lot of A&M coworkers / friends - even before the game, Kelly’s head is wanted on a silver platter. We hate him; he hates us.

The current dilemma is our obese AD guaranteed him a huge contract and the buyout is $50MM. The appetite to pay that isn’t exactly there.

Also, regarding the governor, we’re in between Presidents rights now. The AD reports to the President … the President reports to the Board of Trustees … the Board of Trustees are appointed by and report to our (dumbass) governor.

So, with the President issue, it screws things up. I understand they’re working on an “exit plan/buyout.”

Our fat AD right now is sweating as he saddled us with this POS loser.

Not necessarily.

"LSU could also fire Kelly without having to buy his assistants out of their contracts. All coaches on his staff signed deals with clauses that free the athletic department from paying the full cost of their buyouts, whether Kelly is no longer LSU’s head coach or if they leave the program to take other jobs."

This could also lend credence to the rumor he offered up his staff to save himself because there were rumors and reporting earlier in the day that some guys on the offensive side were being let go. If they are planning on firing Kelly, it makes sense to not let him do that because then they have to pay the full buyout as opposed to none or a lesser amount if it happens after they fire Kelly.

What if…..hear me out……

Brian Kelly took a chance on Marcus Freeman as a DC

Marcus Freeman returns the favor, and takes a chance on Brian Kelly as an analyst

You gotta make that call and offer BK. The comedy would be off the freaking charts. It would be the single greatest troll job in the history of college football.

We won’t have to pay the full buyout because it’s too much. Huh. Did they see what happened when Woodward fired Jimbo?

Seems like pretty wishful thinking. What is actually in the contract?
Yeah...the buyout is non negotiable. Pay him the $ or keep him....they call it a contract.

Yikes. Sloan is one thing. Seems dumb Baker agreed to that.
