Rewatched the Boise game, and the biggest standout (besides how boss JP, JL and Faison are) is just how terrible and regressive the NBC broadcast is. You can just tell Garrett is mailing it in, its all superficial insight and filling time with folksy tropes and nonsense. Dan Hick is fine(ish), but overall a country club snooze. What's worse though is that the production of their college football feels so flimsy and cheap. Their studio talent is C-squad and the whole thing feels like a college broadcast of people doing their impression of on-air talent.

Someone here said it somewhere, but it's all the more strange because Sunday Night Football is awesome and makes the game feel "big." I also think NBC Premier League broadcast is totally top notch. ND football and their BIG10 coverage feels phoned in.

100% - couldn't agree more

I find it silly that ND does not cultivate the broadcast as an avenue for alumni networking. No reason to not have a homer in the booth for a captive broadcast. Roll other ND talents through there too - people tune in to see Notre Dame, GIVE THEM NOTRE DAME. Not Doug f-ing Flutie - who are the ad wizards that came up with that?

remember reading i think Drew Magary back in the day and he was always dumbfounded that NBC didnt go for a full ND homer crew including a "rules analyst" type who'd be so one eyed in ND's favour youd think there was a cyclops in the booth. The notion they have to provide balance is just ridiculous

I mean, NBC, you run a ND propaganda documentary at halftime every game. It's a safe space, hire someone in the booth that knows and loves ND. It's been said over and over here, but I still have no clue why Brady Quinn isn't in the NBC booth.

The Garrett thing is so consistent with how these networks operate though. "Oh Jason Garrett was the Cowboys coach, he must know football. Let's get him on the air." Same goes for Tom Brady. Funny part is they are bizzarro opposites of each other. Garrett is a grinning ventriloquist dummy who provides zero commentary, and Tom Brady won't shut the fuck up with over the top insight and narcissistic stories.

Common denominator- they both are terrible and unlistenable with ZERO personality.

Brady is *fantastic* in longer form analysis situations. He is a little rough in the booth still.

Yeah, guess I've never seen him as a color guy in the booth. Agree though, love his stuff on Fox. Feels like he would grow into it.

I'm sure he's well paid at FOX, but can't be more than a booth game guy? NBC, pony up. You saved the money on the nepo hire with Ian Eagles kid. Spread the gold guys!

Comment of little relevance to anything important, but some of the above comment on TV commentator is crap. (yes, just my opinion.)

When I joined IE WAY back, I believe the color commentator was PAT HADEN. The Play-by-Play was TOM HAMMOND.

Just let THAT sink in a little for the whiners.

After that we got very lucky for a too-short period with Mike Mayock, and the whiners took two years to even wake up to how good he was.

THEN ----> DOUG FLUTIE.

GAWD. Give me Jason Garrett (who I find very football knowledgeable and very fair to ND) every damm time.

Jess and Chris of the Rakes Report are great when acting like catty bitches like the rest of us CFB fans. That’s all that matters to me
