Think you partially answered your own question SoIll. 2 big games in the cfp tend to warrant hype esp when his qb was known more as a runner. That, coupled with massive production in arguably one of the best leagues in hs fball.Heres my thing...
Everyone hypes JG to be this "star". I never understood it. He had some awesome games in the CFP, but what has warranted the hype? He's not super quick/twitchy. Not really a deep threat. Never got the hype.
Pauling is a better slot receiver IMO
Add in Carr's arm talent in Denbrock's offense known for featuring the slot had many thinking JG was poised for a big year.
If the slot fade is a thing. We need to have Fields in slot too. The idea of slot is really loose these days. Can have formations with numerous guys filling a type of slot roleThis is probably the biggest surprise. Denbrock has in the last 3 years prior featured slot fades heavily. We even had Leonard trying them at times. So the natural assumption would be Carr to Greathouse on those would follow, which maybe they will. Maybe he’s just better at straight vertical routes and was throwing INTs on slot fades? Could be a simple as that.
Not sure about Carr being 6’1”, but either way this is part of the answer for some QB’s. Anything over the middle in short to intermediate is harder to see when most of the guys directly in front of you are several inches taller. I’ll add that, if CJ is trying to stay mindful of protecting the football, throwing it down the field and outside to open areas is a very safe bet.Not when you’re 6-1 and have to find throwing lanes
Greathouse is a good college football player and I'm glad he's on our team. But I agree he's not really some sort of star. Has been kind of up and down his whole career so far.
He flashed in 2023 b/c he was the most ready of the freshman WRs and we were desperate for bodies, then he got hurt, IIRC. Last year he had a few good games in the regular season but also disappeared for weeks at a time, until flashing big in the latter half of the playoffs. Unlike Fields, he's not unusually physically gifted, and our other two best WRs - Faison and Pauling - have kind of similar profiles. Is he meaningfully enough better than either of them that we should be feeding him?
He's getting on the field, and I'm sure he'll have his moments (especially if one of those other two gets hurt) but Greathouse not getting more targets is fairly low on my list of things to worry about right now.
A last minute hamstring injury prior to game 5 on a player who has been MIA this season is suspect regardless of what the talking heads think.Of the podcasts I've listened to, each of them has made a somewhat casual remark that the Greathouse injury is odd. It seems like they are insinuating there is more going on here.
Is anyone else getting this read? It seems like he's either got a more serious injury or he might be trying to decide if he should sit after 4 games or keep playing? He hasn't been targeted as much as we expected at the start of the season. Feel free to tell me I'm reading into it too much.

It's been that way all season

I’m usually not the negative conspiracy one but it just doesn’t smell right to me. The status of Moore, Smith, Burnette, Flanagan all addressed in thet period. Hope I’m dead wrong.
This and even Gilbert I think is gonna end up better you've seen a few times this year where Gilbert had his man beat over the top I think he's gonna be a main guy next year. The problem is he lacks the burst of faison/pauling or power/size of fields and with the type of passer CJ who doesn’t want plays to take long to develop he is the odd man out simple as that.
There’s a bunch of talented young WRs who’ll be competing for time. And we assume Faison is back next year, yeah? This and even Gilbert I think is gonna end up better you've seen a few times this year where Gilbert had his man beat over the top I think he's gonna be a main guy next year.
I don't know if I would go so far as to say it wouldn't be a loss but I don't think he would find a much better situation for next year. Would basically be the unquestioned top 2 guy.I’m sorry but if this is the route he’s choosing it’s not a loss.

Freeman did not bring up any of those 4, he was asked specifically about them. That could be a good sign, or it could strengthen your concern that the beat knows what is going on, and to not ask about it.Freeman has had 3 pressers since the injury and not fielded one question on it:
