Clemson looked tired in the second half. I also thought their OC did a poor job adjusting to the delayed blitzes.

While their first team talent is still stellar, their recruiting drop off + lack of portal use has really hurt their quality depth.

I think my post from a little while back is still on point:

I know this is going to come back and bite me in the ass, but I feel really good about this team this year. The schedule is a bear and this team has a few question marks (mainly, the offensive line), but I have a feeling they might be scary good. Our defensive line might be the best we’ve had in decades, the linebacker room is filthy, our WR’s will be unreal, I love Durham at RB (and am obviously excited to see what Harlem Berry can do), and have full confidence in Nussmeier. Our secondary shouldn’t be a slouch either ….

Like I said, it won’t surprise me if I’m bitching and moaning after week one as my faith in Kelly is scarce, but for some reason, I think this team — even if in despite Kelly’s flaws — can roll. We’ll see. It’s the most optimistic I’ve been since he’s taken the job.

We looked good last night. We shot ourselves in the foot with some turnovers, failing to convert, and were royally screwed on that TD reversal, but we still dominated. As another poster pointed out, that was closer to a 35-10 game than a 17-10 game. We thoroughly controlled the game (in yards, first downs, time of possession). Clemson’s predominately a running team and they couldn’t do anything against our defensive line and backers. They were manhandling them. Perkins freed up at the start position is a game changer. I thought the offensive line player pretty well for the most part.

I’m still concerned about Nuss’s leg…always thought their was more to that injury than they were leading on…I trust Baker, I trust Sloan, I do not, however, trust Kelly….Has a Kelly led team ever shown the ability to go and just kick a formidable opponent’s ass…? Seriously?

LSU just generally looked the better athletes and team. Could be scary as they polish up.

Maybe we can play them in the playoffs.

Their defense is absolutely legit, and that has been a point of contention for BK the last few years.

This could be a scary team, and at this moment I’d take them against Bama, Texas, and maybe even Georgia

LSU won by 7, I still think Clemson is the better team, and in a rematch I would take Clemson.

This board's obsession with Kelly is getting weird.

We upgraded in the biggest way possible yet people still act like they lost the love of their lives.
The carpetbagger moved on and we should all too.
I mean, from the outside this whole board is obsessed with all aspects of a football program involving people most of us don’t know at a place most never attended. In that context, obsessing over our all-time winningist coach, who left us to coach at a “better” place, is perfectly normal.

Lmao yes when the starting point is “not well-adjusted, unhinged, and obsessed” anything goes!!

Well, this is a really fortuitous year for LSU. Alabama is way down, Texas isn’t beaten the world, and even Georgia is ho hum. LSU is gonna look good this year. I truly hate to see it because I dislike BK more than anyone since probably Spurrier, but it is what it is

He is still BK and will find a way to choke and blame it on everyone else but himself. I still don't like them to make the playoff.

Ole Miss will be a problem, and I hate to say it but Auburn may be too.

It's cool to hate BK (I sure do) but this is just wildly wrong. Clemson has a good defense, but their offense is terrible and the talent gap between LSU and Clemson was apparent. Do I think LSU is a legit title contender? There are no superteams so yeah, sure, but I don't trust Kelly in those big moments. I don't trust him, Cristobal, and especially Little Game James Franklin in huge games until proven otherwise.

I feel like he's onto something. This isn't exclusive to LSU or even to college football.

Teams are winning games and being asked what the problem is. It's kind of bizarre.

LSU had 12 drives and went 3 and out or turned it over on 6 of them. They had only 3 scoring drives.

Maybe it shouldn’t have been the first question, but who knows if that reporter would have gotten a second question given to him?

The idea that LSU managed it to win as BK implies and they were strategically punting or throwing a INT on 8/12 possessions is gaslighting

I sort of agree that it would be annoying if I were a coach, but also it comes with the territory of being paid a $100M contract and having everything in the world at your disposal. When the expectation is to be the best team in the country and win a championship, the conversation is naturally going to skew negative because either you're "capital-G" Great or you're failing. If he wants to just win football games and everyone be happy, he can always take a job at Miami (OH).

LSU's offense has been underwhelming especially when you consider the pre-season expectations for the offense with Nussmeier at the helm. I think Kelly's response though, while unwarranted in the general sense, is something that I would want my head coach to say if I was a player on the team.
