To your point, I can't stand the thought of having a teenager start driving today. Everywhere I go I see idiots staring at their phone, skipping lanes, etc. That really grinds my gears, even more so now that I have a baby.

You can be the best, safest driver in the world and you're really only responsible for ~50% (braking/swerving etc) of what happens between you and other vehicles. I'd be all for a technology where you have to dock your phone in the trunk before starting your car. Sick of this $hit.
The other day I was driving on a road that goes between a couple of those big warehouse. Coming up to where it curves, this girl was in my lane because she was on her phone. She saw me at the last minute and adjusted, but after narrowly missing me, she just kept looking at her phone like it was no big deal.

I bring my kid if we’re grabbing a burger and he wants to shoot pool. There’s dozens of bars on the lakes here too. We grab lunch and there’s always a band playing on the weekend. Pretty sure the kids have to be gone by 5-6pm. We’re usually home by then.
Even our McDonalds has a pier.
Exactly. When I say bar, I mean the establishment, and the areas where there are tables. They are rarely, if ever, seated at the actual bar in a stool.

ok here is a vent. Start with when the gov took over all these student loans as a ‘fix’ and my ease of use went to hell and my payments doubled but I digress,…this morning: I’m finally finishing off my student loans and had to call because they removed the option to take off auto pay and I know these clowns,… they’ll debit my account even after I don’t owe anything. I know this because they did this years ago during a deferment after my wife lost her job during Covid and we needed a few months to get back to normal and they kept taking the money out even while I was in deferment. So I call to get auto debit removed and after a half hour wait I get a person,… ‘congrats on paying off your loans that awesome!!’ Whatever just take the freaking auto debit off. Guy tells me he can’t but a specialist can so he says he’ll transfer me,… I tell him wait, how long is the wait for a specialist?? ‘Oh you called early and it’s dead right now, shouldn’t be long at all’ ok fine, transfer me,… immediately the stupid automated message says my estimated wait time is two hours. I figure, I’m off work this week, I’m done with these clowns after this call, I’ll do things around the house with the phone in my pocket, it can’t really take two hours,…. Three hours later I have nothing else to do m, the stupid elevator tune is forever engraved in my mind and I just hang up and have my bank stop payment. Freakin government,… There, there is something that ground my gears this morning

I'm waiting for someone to post in here about a situation where there was an actual grinding of gears that pissed them off. You know, like they have a gear-driven steampunk conveyor system that brings them cold beer on demand but then some grit got into the gears and it broke down and then he had to actually get up and go get his own beer like some filthy commoner. The literal grinding of gears in the beer-delivery contraption led to his figurative grinding of gears and then the singularity occurs and all sentient life on Earth comes to an end. Just a thought.

Similar situation for me over the weekend. One of my garage door openers has a belt drive system and is less than 8 years old. The plastic non-drive pulley cracked pinching the belt causing the belt to partially strip off several teeth. I order the correct size belt based on the door height and after receiving it, measure it against the old belt…….about 10” too short. So, I start a return on that belt and reorder the belt for a larger door height and will have to trim it slightly to fit. I also find out that the pulley for this system has been discontinued and cannot find it anywhere even though this garage door opener is a major brand and is not very old. I had to figure out an option and ended up finding a pulley that is the same size but it is normally used on a belt driven dryer drum. It’s a lot of gear grinding because the manufacturer doesn’t offer the proper support and used a very cheap brittle plastic part that is a crucial component.

We have a flat bed delivery truck that we park inside the building every night. Yesterday our delivery driver called off. Not a single technician could drive a manual transmission. I moved it and did NOT grind any gears…

We supply snacks and coffee for the employees. I had to run to Costco to get the goods for my building. I swear I hit every red light for four miles. On the way back, I get behind two cars (one in each lane) driving 35 in a 40. Neither pulled away from the other and both think it's great to start braking for a light way before you need to.

Normally aggravating but if heading back to work on the company’s dime, I’d probably take my sweet time as well.

Blower motor went out on the heat pump/furnace. Tech comes checks it out and says he'll be back with the motor. Returns next day and after a couple of hours says it's the wrong motor. Two days later and still sweating my balls off, he returns. Installs it in a couple of hours and says the good news is the motor is under warranty. Figure the bill will be about $300 - $350. Nope, $650! Call and tell the lady that's ridiculous. Waiting to hear back. Been a customer of this company for a long time, but even if they reduce it, I'm done with them.
RepairClinic.com is your best friend when this happens. Where i order all my stuff from for side work and usually have it shipped to my house in a day or 2. Hell of alot cheaper than calling anyone

On the topic of work provided snacks/coffee…every place I have worked at for the past 20+ years will provide coffee. I don’t like coffee. Why can’t they provide soda? The company I work at is very large and spends literally hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on coffee, surely it would be cheaper to buy soda?

Providing soda will increase their health costs over any extended period of time.

Exactly. Also contributes to diabetes, weight gain and long-term health and dental issues. Its why they pulled them out of schools as well.
But put in all the diet and lite versions of drinks... which suck and aren't really much better for you.

If they are spending hundreds of thousands on coffee they'd be spending a crazy amount on pop I imagine.

In the past year or so, Lowe’s has started to grind my gears. I’ve done the majority of my home improvement shopping there for years, but they’ve started having these sales people (I am not sure if they are actual Lowe’s employees) hang around the front of the store trying to sell you gutter guards. That’s one thing that always annoyed me , unsolicited sales pitches. I’ll go find you if I want to buy something, stop bothering me while I’m waiting for my paint to be mixed. It’s starting to drive me away from there, as it happens most of the time I go there now. Hopefully their management comes to their senses.

Yep, they were hawking insect trapping products when I went in the Lowe’s this past weekend.

3rd party vendors, gotta be one of the most miserable jobs ever. Same with the ones in Costco begging you to get a new phone or internet.

I always say I live in an apartment and they stay away from me

Bingo. It's 2025, if we need something we go online and purchase it or we go find it locally. Solicitors and door to door sales is so obsolete it's crazy they're still a thing.

Had to be the guy who put a no soliciting sign on my door... I just couldn't handle the pestering and if I ever had a salesman walk up to my house and wake up our napping child, I'm not sure I'd stay out of jail tbh...lol

Just had my belts replaced and the company I used was fantastic. First thing they asked was if we had a LiftMaster/Chamberlain opener. Since we do, they said they provide lifetime warranty on the belts so call them and have them send new ones so we don’t have to get charged for them. Simply went online and entered the serial & model number & received the two belts within a week.

My wife wants to get the garage floored redone with the Epoxy/Poly coating. I didn't care one way or another. After signing the contract, the AC goes on the blink again and the next day the transmission drive belt on the tractor goes out. $$$$$$$$$$$

Finally get the truck fiasco over with, get home today and there is a letter saying my license is suspended for not proving insurance. Called BMV and the lady looked into it, apparently they sent in the policy number but somehow my son's license number got attached to it. Guess I'll be driving the speed limit until it processes with mine.
