I suspect fans watching in real time would come away that Price was worthy of RB1 but all the criticism for the lack of run game & pass game comes down to an inexperienced OL. They struggled getting push until the 2H. Could’ve been halftime adjustments or just getting comfortable in game one or aTm getting fatigued or some combo of the aforementioned.

Great post, Love & Price are a great 1-2 punch.

Good luck NIU this weekend.
Excited to see what our RBs can do once our passing game gets going (i expect it to this weekend). They did not have much space to work vs A&M, but found a few spots and ran hard. A&M wanted to take away leonard and the running game from having space/time, and it seemed like denbrock didn't trust the oline yet to call some slower developing pass plays and play action. A&M played a ton of man, not surprising.

Both RB's will be exciting A&M was a tough defense, with the next 4 games we get NIU, Purdue, Miami-OH, and Louisville. Purdue could give us fits, but I think Louisville will be the toughest defense. Our RB's, Leonard, and o-line will get better.

Why do you think Purdue will give us fits?

Let me see....ND just played one of the toughest defenses in CFB and you are worried about Louisville's 3 star defense? And Purdue's 2 star one?

This is why I think Purdue "could" not "will" give us fits- home game for them and they have a week off to prepare. Take a peak at their schedule, 6th toughest schedule in the country per Phil Steele's 2024 magazine and it starts with ND.

Did you really fully read my message? I 100% agree that ND just played one of the toughest defenses vs A&M. Out of the next 4 games vs NIU, Purdue, Miami-OH, and Louisville that Purdue "could" give fits and Louisville will be the "toughest."

With Louisville being the "toughest" am I "worried" as you suggest....nah!

Fair on the “could”… but they lost their best players to the portal from a bad team last year

Wanted to start a conversation about Price in particular as he's a guy that has me the most vexed as i start to look back on the year ND had. He's a tremendous talent but I believe he underachieved this season and in the playoffs specifically, relative to his talent.

Imo, he's a big reason why our offense was frustratingly inconsistent. He's so damn explosive when he puts his foot in the ground and gets north/south.

Problem is, we saw so many times where he would dance and run sideways straight into penetration and a tfl. Was he pressing trying to turn every play into a house call knowing that he often wouldn't get more than a handful of carries in a game? Maybe.

It'll be interesting to see if DMC can train that outta him for his Sr year or if those traits are ingrained in him at this point and he is what he is. There's a reason williams played more in the playoffs. I think it was O'Malley that charts stuffs that mentioned prior to the natty that he was stuffed on 16 of 24 carries or something ridiculous.

I think most would agree the oline (barring multiple injuries) will be better and more making this upcoming year. I have no doubt Williams and Young could eat behind that type of line.

We've got our superstar in Love. But our 2nd and 3rd backs need to be super productive guys that keep our offense on schedule. There's also going to be a lot more carries for backs without RL behind center. Here's hoping Price can take that next step.

A lot of his negative play runs were inside. They just happened to be poorly blocked my the OL and TE. He had the most explosive offensive play in the Sugar Bowl that was called back on a holding penalty. As someone stated above, he bounced it outside. Same was true for TA&M.

Somehow that narrative that Price is"frustrating" started and it's taken off in the worst way. I think too many people look at the end result and just say, "there he goes again, losing yards" and don't actually look at the fact that he's getting met immediately by tacklers. Love had a bunch of negative plays too but those are overlooked.

The old adage I've heard is that the first 4 yards of a run belong to the offensive line, after that, it's all the running back. Since then, I always look to see what is happening right before the handoff along the line and where the TE is. Trust me, go do that and you'll be amazed at how almost all good runs start. You'll also see that every running play is designed to go to a gap and the play is DOA if the timing and blocking aren't right along the line. Of course, that's what makes the superhuman 2 yard runs against Penn State so legendary, a running back like Love fought through all of those. Watch the line and you'll immediately forgive the RB on a negative run okay.

And now that he's back and active, would love to hear Old Man Mike's input on the blocking.

He had limited carries. Can not blame him for trying to make big plays when he got in. Especially when he was so dang successful at it most of the time.

They needed to mix in some more stuff like the toss they did on the 2-pt conversion. The run game was way too vanilla last year, IMHO. I think that hurt Price.

There are backs who need to trust the play and just hit the hole hard as drawn up.

We've had good backs who took two years to understand this. Not all gaps are four-lanes.

Price gives Donovan Edwards energy in most games. He doesn’t seem to have a good eye for the hole and consistently looks for home runs over 4 yard gains. But sometimes he finds the crease and he eats chunks or hits a home run

Price and Live need to get more touches as does Williams and Young. I think Young is the real Bulldozer with the body to go with it. Second half of Penn state game someone told Love to hit hole hard and fast and it worked great. Price needs to do the same thing as yesterday he bumps it to the outside and occasionally it pays off big but against the better faster teams it often winds up as a loss and now we are Second and 14! Don’t think that happens with Williams, Young or Payne. We need Proce because he seems to be able to carry the ball more than 15 times without getting nicked up. Loves durability is questionable. Would love to see one of these guys get the rock 20 times a game. Will be surprised if Payne Stays. He could do well somewhere else. He can go to ASU and be the new Skattabooh!
