Wanted to start a conversation about Price in particular as he's a guy that has me the most vexed as i start to look back on the year ND had. He's a tremendous talent but I believe he underachieved this season and in the playoffs specifically, relative to his talent.

Imo, he's a big reason why our offense was frustratingly inconsistent. He's so damn explosive when he puts his foot in the ground and gets north/south.

Problem is, we saw so many times where he would dance and run sideways straight into penetration and a tfl. Was he pressing trying to turn every play into a house call knowing that he often wouldn't get more than a handful of carries in a game? Maybe.

It'll be interesting to see if DMC can train that outta him for his Sr year or if those traits are ingrained in him at this point and he is what he is. There's a reason williams played more in the playoffs. I think it was O'Malley that charts stuffs that mentioned prior to the natty that he was stuffed on 16 of 24 carries or something ridiculous.

I think most would agree the oline (barring multiple injuries) will be better and more making this upcoming year. I have no doubt Williams and Young could eat behind that type of line.

We've got our superstar in Love. But our 2nd and 3rd backs need to be super productive guys that keep our offense on schedule. There's also going to be a lot more carries for backs without RL behind center. Here's hoping Price can take that next step.

I talked about this extensively in the Williams thread, but Price is very much feast or famine. We saw it in the playoffs, A&M, and a number of other games. He'll have 75 yards on 8 carries in a game which looks great, except he'll have a long of 73, so 7 carries for 2 yards. He's not quite as patient as Love for holes to develop, he has a tendency to kick things outside or to reverse field. Occasionally it works, most times it does not. He also struggles in pass protection a bit compared to Love and Williams. He's a great talent, there is no doubt, but I just don't see him as a starting back. He's not a complete back. I think Williams takes over as 1a if Love goes down again or after he leaves.

My counter argument with Pride is, I'm not sure if he gets enough snaps sometimes to get into a rhythm. Maybe be trying to force too much.
But, you still have to feed love. And you have Leonards runs this year.
Next year, with an improved line, I'm very excited

Price will be the biggest beneficiary of a QB who is efficient at getting the ball down field in the passing game. Get defenders out of the box and he'll eat. Love accelerates with force into the smallest of openings to get his 3 yds where Price often gets stuffed looking for a seam to get big yards. It's amazing how many ND "fans" rode him for not being love. He just ran for 750 yds at a 6.2 clip... as the third option.

I hope he stays.

No kidding. I am a HUGE Price fan. Look what he did at USC when we needed him. Its not like he is scared of contact or something. JD Price is a STUD back and we absolutely need him going forward. You don't get many home run threats like him that also have great hands. He is going to be a huge part of our offense again next year. Incredibly grateful to have him.

Gotta be honest, I’m pretty shocked that he isn’t transferring. Almost Certainly won’t be getting more touches next year. Have to think a school would’ve offered him $500k-$1 million for him to be the feature back. explosive, running backs like him are very rare.

The fact that we were able to keep all 4 running backs shows me more than anything else that our NIL for existing players is more than ok.

He should get plenty of touches with Carr not running Wan draws like Leonard has. Not to mention Love seems to injure easily. I don’t recall Price catching too many passes though. Surprised I don’t see Payne in the portal yet. Must want his degree which is a good idea. If he only gets in 4 games this season he should have two seasons left and fresh legs. Love and Price are probably both gone after 2025 so maybe hang around to be RB#3 in 2026.

If Carr gets the starting job next season having 3 different RB's like Love-Price-Williams will take some pressure off of him. When Price came in he made the best of of the snaps he got.

Here’s to hoping we utilize more two back sets and much more passing to backs outside of screens.

It killed me this year that we didn’t have Love or Price running angle/option routes on linebackers. This was probably due to the help needed by the oline to pass block and that shouldn’t be an issue next year.

DM is a great coach but his usage of the backs was different. One back gets one quarter and the next one gets a quarter.

Get them on the field at the same time and run price on some 2nd and ones. They will both be more effective.

FOUR superb RBs --- how does any staff get them on the field?

I REALLY don't want to lose either of the two young ones.

Right there with you, OMM. Kedren Young feels like a guy you need to get some touches and he's technically 4th!

If there's such a year, it feels like we could withstand an injury at rb in '25 and still likely be elite. Especially when running behind a Joe Moore caliber oline.

Notre Dames main focus this offseason should be convincing him to stay one more year IDC what it takes but I think he has potential to be the best RB in college. He is averaging 6.3 yards per carry and I think is being under utilized. If he's getting 12-15 carries a game he's got potential to break some records.

I think Jeremiyah Love is my favorite player but I'm starting to question who our best RB is.

Love isn't a pure RB and he isn't going to be in the NFL he's going to be used like a Christian McCaffrey. I could see teams lining him up with a second back and splitting out as a WR. Love isn't going to be a guy who lines up and runs all game, Price is that guy. I just wish we would see more Williams tho I'm not a fan of barely using him and wasting another year of eligibility. If you are going to play him 1-2 snaps a game redshirt him.

I thought Williams was dinged up?

Williams is hurt. He looks like freaking robocop out there with what he’s got on his arm. I doubt he can carry a football. He was able to throw a block on ST and once in pass protection

Why play him then? Redshirt him makes zero sense do we actually need him if Payne is sitting there?

Price on A-Gap runs: 5 carries for 10 yards
Price on all other carries: 22 carries for 177 yards (8.05 YPC)

Love on A-Gap runs has 14 carries for 78 yards (5.6 YPC)

There's a lot of fans on Twitter that don't know ball, a lot of them yesterday said Price is the better back. Price very well could be the more dangerous runner on the outside, but he's not a complete back and not the best. While he's more patient this year in letting plays develop before he tries to kick it outside, Love still looks to be the better runner between the tackles. Also, Price still needs to work on his blocking and become a receiving threat. There's a reason Williams was in for Love quite a bit during the playoffs while he was banged up, he's been a good blocker and a weapon in the passing game. Price is extremely dangerous though, I wouldn't want anyone else as #2.

This reminds me of the stretch when Cierre Wood and Jonas Gray both got their acts together and had a stretch of games where they were unstoppable until Grays injury.

The difference is both of these players are undeniably unselfish, mature players.

Could see him doing higher in the draft, would be a hell of a pull if we can keep hin around next season.

I’d love to see him come back, but running backs only have so many carries in their bodies. The Irish would have to pay more than the NFL to get him to come back. Even then, he might just want to go pro.
I agree.
I always think a player should go pro if they think it makes sense, especially RBs (w/their hit count). You can always go back to school.
