Gotcha. I missed the motion/cut back on the replay. If so that's a wicked play to defend.
Heard Pollack say it was a tendency breaker as well. Haven't rewatched anything, but I think it was the same look and action as the jet sweeps

We lost the game based on about 6-7 plays that didn’t go our way. If we are playing our best this like the Penn State game where they win the game in the trenches but we kept making some plays and field goals. This game was lost on plenty of plays:
- Bowen being out of position on big run
- dropped pass on fake point after bad spot
- decision to kick FG then miss the FG
- missed holding penalty on Ohio State
- grey getting beat by 6-7 yards final straw

Grey has been beat often and gets many deserved PI’s and holding calls. He made two great plays with the pick 6 against USC but he gave up more than 6 that day being exposed over and over.

Smith was so wide open he was able to wait for the underthrown ball to come down. Just don’t understand how a small fast DB gets beats so badly deep. Howard had Tate wide open in the end zone by 7-8 yards in Grey when he overthrew him which resulted in a FG but that was one play the luck went our way.

Love Greys guts and he’s actually an awesome tackler especially for his size but he is not Ronald Darby. Feels like we could have used Minchey. Will be interested to see who else might challenge for playing time. Moore is the new lockdown corner and a true freshman who will become our ball hawk next year.

Like many have said a Kelly team and coaching staff would have quit and got beat by 40. These guys toughed it out and had some Ohio State fans and Day pooping their pants. Riley showed us he can pass even when the D knows it’s coming.

Hope we don’t lose many players to the portal.

Newsflash: Gray wasn't the only one Smith showed out against all year. It's almost like he was one of the best top 3 receivers in the country. One, who many think would be the top receiver taken in this years draft as a true freshman.

Team glory in victory. Team accountability in defeat. Christian Gray didn't lose Notre Dame the game. Notre Dame lost Notre Dame the game (and Ohio State had something to do with that). Anyone that wants to point the finger at one guy doesn't know ball.

His play is the classic and unrealistic example, that some fans have, that our players should win every play. As if, the other team, in the national championship or any power 5 team, doesn’t have elite players too.

CB is probably the most difficult position to play on the field, outside of QB. You’re gonna get beat sometimes.

I’m proud that CG is on our team.

They were so good no one talks about his 4th down play against A&M, which was insanely athletic and heady. If the Smith route was a slant like it looked, Gray would have repeated that one.
He did the same thing against Miami OH when it looked like they were about to score. Jumped in front of a slant and knocked the ball up for JT to intercept it.

Dude was a gigantic contributor to this team and made some absolutely gigantic plays this season. We aren't in the 'ship without him.

He's got nothing to hang his head about, and he's absolutely not the reason this team lost the national championship.
Don’t agree. Guy gave up a lot except against the weak receivers of Penn state. Pretty good tackler for his size. Anyone could have okayed USC better. Made a huge play after what almost was another PI call. Got beat so badly in 3rd & 11 that smith was able to wait for the underthrown ball. Moore doesn’t get beat like that if at all. Blame Golden for putting him on that island know what usc did to him.

1. We don't beat USC without him. We don't beat PSU without him. We probably don't beat UGA without him.

2. Tell me a cornerback in the county that's stopping Jeremiah Smith on that play. (Hint: none.)

3. The fact that you're digging up 2-3 plays in order to prove that this guy didn't play well tells you how well he played. The fact we can't think of multiple plays (just a few of them) is indicative of the guy not being on film for the wrong reasons. He played that well.

You're just wrong. We aren't playing in the national championship without Gray. Full stop.

Dude got burnt all season sadly. Why Golden ever allowed him to be on an island so often, including when the game was on the line on 3rd down late in the 4th, is beyond me.
I’m are they’ll figure on a new coverage scheme now that they are finishing playing in the national championship as the best pass defense in college football all season. 🙄

How many corners in the country would have done better in our scheme all year where youre in man w/ little to no help and being trusted to just lock your guy down all game.

There is a reason most teams dont play the scheme we did this year. Their corners arent good enough.

At first I thought ranking Christian Gray 16th was very low, but looking at the names likely ahead of him... this team is just loaded.
Gray needs to be more consistent, but he looked damn good last year at times. Definitely a loaded roster with him being on the bottom half of the starting 22.

It’s just amazing how much better we’ve gotten at corner since Mickens arrived. For long stretches of my three-plus decades of fandom he would’ve been the best corner we had seen in years.
