As soon as SMU heard the committee chair say that “teams that dont’t play this week will not be adjusted against other teams that didn’t play”, they should have opted out of the ACC championship. They would have remained ahead of Indiana and Alabama in theory,

Did anyone else hear (I think Gary Danielson) say "Alabama has to be feeling good, right? Things have really been breaking their way". The one thing that could possibly hurt them is happening - Clemson beating SMU, meaning Clemson steals a bid. But they know SMU is totally screwed if they lose, because otherwise that comment makes no sense
yes. And then Brad Nessler said in response to Danielson’s comment on “alabama could find a way”….”Don’t they always?”

You could tell Nessler knew it was a controversial topic b/c he said he didn’t want to touch it. LOL

Yeah.

If PSU and Texas were undefeated, I’d get it. But two losses + bad resumes for both those teams means they will fall behind ND.
I don’t think they will b/c the CFP has been pretty clear that they will not punish losers of CCG for playing an extra game. They have to protect CCG so as long as PSU & UT don’t/didn’t get blown out…they’ll stay above ND. Why? Because in a passive-aggressive fashion they also want to stick it to ND for not playing in a conference (that part is pure conjecture on my part but I’ve been on this earth long enough to know what non-ND fans think about ND football)

If they don’t put SMU in the conferences will turn the CCGs into invitationals where teams in the top 12 can turn down the opportunity. It will be a huge issue.

It was protecting their spot, not their seeding.

Dropping them, appropriately, a couple spots isn’t “punishing” them. Punishment would be being out of the playoff. I’m not sure why people are interpreting the comment that way,

SMU played Houston Christian. They will have 12 FBS games, they don't have "extra" shit.

Bullshit. THEY PLAYED FOR A FIRST ROUND BYE.

The potential upside of the championship game is tremendously valuable.

I didn’t say they’d be out of the playoff but PSU ain’t dropping below ND. They’ve made that pretty clear thus far. It could change if Oregon turned it on & blew out PSU but that’s not looking to be the case.

I don’t think they’ve made that clear at all. 🤷‍♂️

This is what The Athletic projects at this moment and I'd bet it's correct, if the games finish like they are playing rn.
