Changes to atmosphere in ND Stadium?

Nothing gets the crowd fired up like introducing the geology department. Or the women's rowing team.

WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK!
100% agree with that. That’s the worst. Give us something to cheer about like a Lacrosse national championship or the 77 football team, not a conference title or some academic award Professor Susie or Frank received.

A lot of Notre Dame fans are used to watching golf tournaments, so we do the polite clap near the greens.

If we’re talking about moving the student section, it shouldn’t be hard to conduct a study that tells you the best way to keep sound in the stadium (ie, best location for loudness to be heard on the field, and to bounce back down off the new Crossroads builds), and get the students there ASAP.

My second thought is put them behind the opposing bench. 🤷‍♂️

Crowd is pretty good before kick off with the pre kick music. And then we generally go 3 and out

This is a bad faith post in general but this sentence is so funny man. This is equivalent to me saying that 90s music sucks and listing Who Let The Dogs Out, Tubthumper, and the Thong Song.
Thong Song slaps, you take that back!
What modern hits would you play in the stadium to pump up the crowd?

List of songs that should be played regularly:
- Shipping up to Boston (obviously)
- Welcome to the Jungle
- Kernkraft 400
- Seven Nation Army (not from the marching band)
- Thunderstruck
- Enter Sandman
- Mo Bamba
- Here Comes the Boom
- Let’s Get It Started
- Sandstorm
- Sweet Caroline
- Hot to Go (every female student does the dance)
- YMCA
- Swag Surfin
- Tremor

Feel free to add on

I'd strike YMCA from that list, but otherwise this isn't too bad.
Shipping Up to Boston should always be part of kickoff, along with the "Here Come the Irish."
I would add "Livin' on a Prayer" to this too. The band has played it for years and years, and it has the ND -> Bon Jovi connection. When A&M started playing it this year against us, my immediate reaction was "Bad move! That's our jam."

I've been a season ticket holder since 2009 and the atmosphere during game time is bad. ND is a school of tradition and while they can keep their tradition they need to make changes as the times have changed.

I really enjoy talking to all fans- ND's and opposing before the games. Sure it is nice to welcome opposing fans, talk how nice ND's campus is, and learn about the opposing team what I don't already know.

When it comes to game time I ask myself do any of our opponents feel afraid or fear ND's game atmosphere? No & they shouldn't. ND has had games where the crowd has been pumped up- 2017 USC, when Georgia visited, Ohio State last season.

When Charlie Weis was our coach he held some pretty good pep rally's before games, some of his best ones were before our big games. ND needs to bring back the pep rally's the night before as it gets campus that much more excited, especially vs our marquee games.

Game time atmosphere- my moto, make it hell for the opposing team & fans while still showing respect. Texas A&M has their "12th man" moto, Penn St. has their "white out" games just to name a couple. The night games can be a long day, but get a light show that you remember. Have fireworks, this is Notre Dame Stadium, the house that Rockne built- showcase it!

I agree with people here about the music- the last couple of years I feel like I've been at a club, throw in a "dance" song every once in a while, but I agree about going with the classic/heavy rock. Get some sound clips like the Joker's laugh (maybe a stretch).

When I saw NIU celebrating on ND's field after that game they were having fun, they took ND's lunch money & kicked our butt.

The home schedule has been weak this season- throw in a wildcard team, a top 25 caliber team.

ND can do so much more to improve the game time atmosphere and still make it enjoyable for kids.

I agree with a lot of this, but I think the stadium expansion(s) have been good over the years and have helped with crowd noise during smaller matchups. I think the video board has helped with the later. In that respect they've made some changes to tradition to keep up with the times and a lot of it has been helpful. The Ohio State game was decent noise wise, not quite '05 USC which has been the loudest game I've ever been to.

I will tell you that our stadium can leave teams disrupted. Utah in 2010 was absolutely shell shocked. They hadn't played in any big venues that year prior to our matchup, most were half the size. It helped that the blue hairs phoned the season in for that one and gave away their tickets to younger family members or sold them. The gold seats in particular were filled with new faces, and they were loud as fuck. Utah never got going in that one despite being ranked and heavily favored.

I haven't been to any Pep Rallies in a long time, but Weis did have some good ones. Kelly had a few good ones too. The Michigan one in 2012 was the best, top to bottom. Of course there was the whole Manti situation going on, and all the fans showed up in Hawaiian leis which was cool. Manti aside, we got the Shembo "Bike seat" promo, we got Troy Niklas' "LEARN TO LOVE THE PAIN!" speech, and a great sermon from Lou Holtz too. I don't think that one can be topped.

42, so even much of Classic Rock is from before my time or I was too young to remember when it was first released. I can recognize that the music appeals to all generations though, not just the Gen X and Boomers before me. As said, it's stood the test of time and they include music that everyone immediately recognizes. Forgive me if I think the songwriters that gave us Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, and Sweet Emotion are more talented than those that brought us recent hits like WAP, Watermelon Sugar, and Dance Monkey. The later will get some nostalgia play on stations years from now, but they won't have the staying power and commercial appeal.
True story, went to a wedding awhile back with my wife and kids and the whole dance floor was packed with kids, parents and the bridle party. Great time until the DJ played WAP. Crazy thing is most people didn’t seem to mind, pure twilight zone stuff.

Im 37 and I agree most of this modern mumble rap shit they play at games sucks. Enter sandman or hell even jump around would still get people up and moving in the stadium

See, beats crazy train or some other 50 year old rock song

But is it better than the Six Flags song!?

Notre Dame’s home game atmosphere is horrible, except for a night game once a year. It has everything to do with stadium operations, not the football team.

Notre Dame isn’t conducive to a great environment, it just isn’t. Next time you’re walking around campus on game day, take note to how quiet it is. People are lining up for a steak sandwich from the KOC tent or people are gathering to cheer the team leaving Mass, they aren’t pounding shots or doing keg stands. When you get into the stadium, people are standing and clapping along with the Victory March, they aren’t standing stomping on their seats and yelling to the top of their lungs like a lunatic. It’s just not that environment. The school doesn’t help with its choice in music, displaying the children’s interviews during pivotal moments, and, frankly, inviting people to Mass after the game. Seriously, I’m hoping Cross breaks free and crushes the QB or Watts goes on a blitz and obliterates someone, and you’re now inviting me to Mass after the game. I do appreciate it, it fulfills my Sunday obligation, and it is unique, but it can take away from the atmosphere ever so slightly ….

I have to disagree on the tailgating part. The steak sandwiches from the KOC are done in the heart of campus. A lot of the tailgating done in the Stadium and Joyce lots is pretty elite.

Yeah. No one's doing keg stands on South Quad, that's true. But there's plenty going on in the parking lots a mile away. Some people head to Mass after the game, some head home to pass out. The Notre Dame fan base contains multitudes.

The things I’ve seen done at tailgates would make you think it isn’t a Catholic university lol.

There are many things the university could do to make the game atmosphere 100x better, but they’re too stubborn.

Are you ready?
Can you imagine the blue hairs the first time the bass drops? Hilarious.

The thing about these stadium anthems is you have to sort of appeal to everyone. It can't be so hardcore that you scare kids and anger the olds with a bunch of f bombs and sexual innuendos. It has to be identifiable. It has to be pretty easy to sing. Jump Around. I Won't Back Down. Mr. Brightside. Sandstorm. Enter Sandman.

Here's a compromise for everyone. You go with Baba O'Riley for the blue hairs, but you use the Dropkick cover to give it a bit of an edge. It's classically identifiable. It's pretty easy to sing/learn the words. It's easy to get a little hype to and you could do some cool effects with the stadium lights. The olds are somewhat used to "Dropkick" already since we play "Shipping" and "The Boys are Back"

Do it between 3Q and 4Q. Profit.

If you disagree, you're just a closeted BC fan.

Edit: Honestly this is the best idea I've ever had. I think literally everyone could get down with this. The original itself is a kickass jam. But Dropkick gives it that Irish edge.

We Own It by Whiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz should be played. I also agree with anything Bon Jovi.
