I would consider it arrogant of me as a fan to think money would want to make him stay when I know full well from first hand experience that for the majority of the guys in this profession that's not what they're all about. As much as I'd love for him to stay at ND as long as he wanted and be successful long term, he's going to succeed and he's going to have opportunities find him. He won't have to seek them out. There could be one, college or NFL, that could prompt him to move. That's the nature of the beast.
Not one for my sports teams to throw money at problems, even if that problem is overcompensating an assistant coach so he doesn't leave.
All of that being said, think back to when he was first hired and how we all felt in that moment. I have to admit I wasn't over the moon about it, but that's because I do what I do 40 hours a week and it isn't this. Really ends up being a fantastic hire by the people who made it. For now I'm going to enjoy watching this defense play next week and not worry about the off the field business. Actual football is actually being played. Not like I'm sitting around waiting for games to end so I can focus on what doesn't really matter: recruiting and the coaching carousel.
The football is why we're here. Not losing sight of that. Al Golden can coach ball. We've got at least 11 more games to see it.
