There were times this year I felt like BenMo was making "business decisions" out there. At times playing like a guy who didn't want to get hurt. Maybe that was to protect the shoulder or maybe that was to protect his draft stock.

I'd be shocked, based on that, if he came back.
I just don't see how this type of mentality translates to success in the NFL.

Edit: this isn't directed at BMo. Generally speaking, "protecting yourself" for the NFL draft is a slippery slope in a competitive arena like the NFL.

I think there’s a decent chance he hasn’t been at 100% all year but he was still trying to be out there to help the team as much as possible. Who knows how long his hip has been damaged before BMo or the staff finally had to wave the white flag.

I’ve seen BMo out there getting rocked and doing some rocking on tackling. He seems to involved in a lot of tackles for a CB. Some heavy contact and has not been making Deion Sanders like chicken shit style attempts at tackling. I think he’s been all in all season. Hope we can get some legit scratch to get him back another year and also finish up his degree. Aren’t these college days at ND remembered as some of the best times of their lives? Especially with plenty of money in their pockets?

FWIW its a good year for corners in the draft.
Realistically, BMo would slot in behind Travis Hunter and Will Johnson anyways which still makes him a late 1st rounder.

its most likely a hip labral tear, commonly associated with this is groin injury symptoms which Benmo has been reported to have. recovery is about 4-6 months but takes more time to fully come back so for a player probably 6-8 to be fully back. This would impact his combine testing which seems to be very important for Benmo as their are questions about his athletic ability. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes back.

Feels like a Kyle Hamilton situation. Play 2.5 years, cement draft stock, opt out.

Something just feels off with it, since we didn't see an injury take place on the field. No explanation was offered up and one wasn't asked for from the beat.

Wonder if it was something he'd been playing through? And finally he's like, well, I have to have the surgery and have enough time to rehab for pre-draft workouts so I'm out coach.

If it's true that it's a groin injury you can very much play through it but I will just gets worse. Im a runner and I've dealt with a reoccurring groin injury the last few years. When it's injured it just hurts slightly and gets progressively worse. He could have played through it and the have the doctors check it out after the game and they said he needs surgery.

Last week, he was probably a Top 20 pick. Don't forget the kid from East Carolina's season ended about a month ago. There were probably 5 corners projected to go first round and two of them are now injured for the year.

I'm not certain what BMo's next move is, though I'm sure the majority on this board are going to say he should come back if for nothing else to make them feel as though they're benefitting as fans from having a key player back in 2025.

There is still a ways to go before we start to see how the draft could take shape. He's got time and should focus on rehabbing for now.

Ive had Labral repairs on both hips and recovery is a bitch. Non weight bearing for 8 weeks.

Interesting that he didn't say he was leaving. That's encouraging for two reasons:

1) He needs to make the best decision for himself based on how the surgery goes and the timetable for recovery and what the experts are telling him about his draft status. That's not a decision to make rashly.

2) Selfishly, there's a chance he might return.

This is where I'm at on this, it explains some series where he'd randomly not be on the field and trips to the locker room. It seems like he was clearly trying to play through a nagging injury and after additional evaluation post-Stanford he had to shut it down + get surgery.

Kiper had him as the #2 CB. I'm not sure he would be fully recovered and conditioned properly in time for the combine or Pro Day. Would love to see him return, but wish him a full recovery regardless of what he decides.

He played nearly every snap the starters were in on Saturday. It wasn’t something that happened in-game. But yeah has been randomly missing a series or two all season.

So it tracks that this would be something he was playing through that they decided to shut down over after the game on Saturday.

Not sure why Freeman/the program couldn’t simply say that, though. No need to give all the gory diagnosis just a nagging injury that had gotten to be too much to ignore.

I'm not sure how long of a recovery he needs but personally I wasn't ever convinced he was going to test very well at the combine even if healthy. I don't see him running a blazing 40 and we all know one bad 40 time ruins a prospect. Maybe I'm wrong but he will have to rely heavily on the tape which lately scouts seem to use the tape less than the workout. That's why there's so many busts

I realize they know more about football than I ever will but the way the NFL rewards raw tools ahead of the proven ability to play the game baffles me. “Never mind that guy who spent the last three years winning high-level college football games, this guy runs the 40-yard dash a little faster. Let’s draft him!”

Notre Dame has laser timed Morrison in the low 4.4s. According to a longtime NFL coach, he’s plenty fast enough and, coupled with his play, is a virtual lock for the first round.

All of this, of course, was prior to his hip injury.

I would have no problem with my Commanders taking him mid-late 1st...he's sticky in man and has great eyes/awareness in zone...I hope he stays but I wouldn't think it would be a bad decision, should he have no setbacks in his rehab.

Well if it is a nagging injury, and BenMo is just going to be use the time to recover and prepare for the draft... at least they just said he totally shut it down and didn't string alone a potential return like they did with Hamilton.

Same here. 16 surgeries for me all together, from ankles to elbow & hips and shoulders were the worst by far. Oh, and I had all 5 lumbar discs fused as well. I would put that surgery 5th worst behind both hips the worst & most painful, followed closely with both shoulders. Lower back won the longest scar award though, hahaha!
