Watched the Va Tech Stanford (recorded) some notes:
1) Game was closer than the score. First two drives SU methodically drove into red zone but came up empty, missed FG and QB fumbled on Va Tech 2 yd line. SU actually had more first downs and TOP thru first half.
2) Lamson played QB for SU as Daniels hurt. Expect Daniels Sat. Lamson makes Riley Leonard look like John Elway. Daniels is a little better but not a good passer either. Our game vs SU will have a large # of 5 yard passes by both teams.
3) SU has a pretty good run game featuring QB runs and a couple of good looking freshman RBs. The best one, Ford, had what looked like a pretty severe ankle injury on the next to last play of the game. Ford, a high school QB, had their only TD pass on a halfback pass.
4) their game plan will probably look like 2022 , hog the ball and shorten the game. VT only had four possessions in the first half but SU wilted in the 2nd half. It was over 100 degrees in Palo Alto!
5) SU defense is very conservative. Then hardly ever blitz and the DBs do not play press coverage, at least the didn't vs VT. They have to change that vs us but it doesn't suit their personnel so not sure what they'll do. Safeties are always two deep and they allow passes in front of them probably because they are not fast enough to play up more, corners allow short stuff as well. Since that's all Riley throws it behooves them to adjust.
6) Didn't see David Bailey the stud DE from Mater Dei at all. DE #11 Tufuti made some plays behind the LOS. Our OL should win the battle here. ILB's are big fifth year guys, solid but not really playmakers.
If I was some kind of betting guru guy I's say take the points (24)and the under. Its like a Navy game; offense will have limited opportunities so better make them count.
