At this point after what we’ve seen the first two weeks i legitimately would be excited to see any 3 of the back up QBs start. I could regret saying this but they can’t do any worse than what we saw the first two weeks right?

A "posterior labrum injury" sounds a lot like a mild shoulder separation or subluxe. That's a precursor to dislocating it, especially for someone like him whose game involves a lot of contact. Doesn't matter which shoulder that'd be a major injury, potentially season-ending, should it happen.
I'm sure after last season he wants nothing more than to get on the field but he should sit at least a week or two, rehab that the right way, and yeah, at least consider redshirting the year.

Really makes me think they have no faith in the other guys when they’d rather put out an injured guy whose best attribute is running rather than playing the backup. Especially against a MAC team.

I almost wonder if this isn't a carry over from a&m. There was the one time he was taken down on his left shoulder and got up holding his arm like his shoulder was in pain. I was waiting to hear an ac joint injury but he never went to the tent

I suspect they wanted Leonard to get the reps and figured they could beat NIU with one hand tied behind the QB’s back, as it were.

QBs have played a season w/ that injury but it does adversely affect their performance. Mitch Trubisky played w/ a sling or strap after he injured his non-throwing labrum w/ the Bears a few years back. Baker Mayfield did similar.

For Leonard, he may want to think about seasons ending surgery if he can’t perform better than last Saturday vs a MAC team b/c he still has his RS year.

That’s the key. I bet none of the other QBs got 1st team reps due to Leonard missing Spring practice and trying to get back up to speed w/ his OL & receivers.
And tbh that may be the biggest indictment of MF in all of this. You signed a xfer QB who, while talented, is coming off of a season ending injury and ANOTHER injury which caused him to miss time in the spring. The fact that we don’t have someone ready to go in the event that RL got hurt is a massive red flag, especially at this position in a sport like football. Insane.

If RL can't run the offense they designed for him (think first drive of NIU), then he shouldn't be in the lineup. He doesn't have the skill set to throw the ball all over the yard.

This is the part I can't come to terms with. Is the QB room THAT bad that RL (especially this version of him) is genuinely the best option right now?

I don't think the QB room is that bad. We saw Steve play well in live action

I think Freeman is an inexperienced head coach, also having to be a college football general manager, and he thinks because of the money and attention invested in Riley, he needs to continue to stay with him.

maybe. Just maybe, they don’t know who to replace RL with. Carr, Kenny, and Steve have not “ran away” with the second spot? Yeah SA is listed #2 but that doesn’t mean shit. I’ll say this. Kenny Minchey is being overlooked here……..👀

Bad read? Bad throw, yes. But bad read? I don't know. He has other open, but a decent throw there is an uncontested TD. Hard to call that a bad read.

Well Mitchell had his guy beat by about 3 yards, but it was so underthrown the 2nd guy about 7 yards beat made the pick. Then Evan was open on a short stick route and Greathouse was also open for a huuuuuuuge gain.

I agree... Just watch the throw to Mitchell again

Yeah he had "double coverage" but only that there was two guys near him

If Riley lead him and put a little air on it, it really looked like he was in the end zone. Riley threw it ten yards short, off his back foot, and with a side arm shotput flick that makes Buchner's throwing motion look pretty ... it was god awful.

Any of the other QBs we have in the rotation would have made a competitive throw, likely would have got a big gain, but at the very least would have had us in a position to have two more tries to get **1 Yard** for a 1st down

Riley is cooked

He attempted to throw a bomb down the field but left alot of zip off of it, it sailed about 6 yards short of an easy TD.
You have to wonder how much his injured shoulder played a part in that. He's not throwing with it, but he's moving/using it during his throwing motion.

This is spot on. I would almost guarantee this is why he wasn’t stepping up in the pocket and driving into his throws. He has elite sack avoidance for his full career. You don’t just lose that ability, he clearly didn’t trust it/was afraid to get hit.

I also say this as a guy with multiple shoulder injuries and played QB/college baseball. Your opposite shoulder definitely affects you mentally and for sure physically in football.

If the staff knew this, which I think they did because they stopped running him in the game, why not pull him if he wasn’t going to be able to do what he’s best at (running)?

Yeah. So one of two things is true here.

1.) Leonard is worse than anyone could’ve expected, or

2.) The coaching staff or training staff put him in danger and there needs to be an internal investigation.

It’s possible he got hurt and withheld the severity of the pain from the staff. It’s the only explanation that makes sense. After the game they ran the tests and discovered the true extent of the damage.

They didn't call a designed run after he got hurt, though. And they could see he had no oomph on his throws. They had to have had at least *some* idea he was pretty well jacked up and that he was significantly limited because of it.
