For an "elite" defense, A&M certainly allowed a hell of a lot of points multiple times last year:

Miami - 48
LSU - 42
Ole Miss - 38

Im supposed to think we won't hit 20 points against that?
some of the TAMU beat guys think ND will struggle to score 9 pts

Compound or recurve?

I appreciate you taking a position. Most of us around here hate how Elko left ND but we really loved him while he was here. He's been a fan favorite except when we are pitted against one of his teams. He was characterized as very smart and hard-working. I think he made shrewd hires everywhere except defense. I think his DC hire is questionable but I'm sure it'll look good this year with the DL you have and knowing his fingerprints will be all over it.

I think 9-3 definitely looks attainable and 10-2 seems like a possibility but I don't know how LSU, Mizzou and Texas match up on the OL. If they have neutralizers on their respective OLs, then each of those games becomes much harder. You guys have a lot of talent and a lot of new pieces coming together.

Each season is a microcosm with it's own set of new players, transfers, new coaches, new injuries, new penalties to bemoan with a little bit of chaos sprinkled in. We have had a fair bit on the offensive side so we're equally anxious to see what we have Saturday night!

For the last decade or so I hunted with a Matthews compound. But a couple years ago I fell off some scaffolding onto my head a shoulder and separated my shoulder. Falling head first from 11 feet should have killed me.......but I am hard headed. My shoulder has never been the same and I cannot pull back my bow. So I bought a ten Point Crossbow. My neighbor owns 250 acres of high-fence in Junction, Texas ( 2 hr drive West of San Antonio) where we manage a whitetail herd by selectively culling out management bucks. We also have bought over the years yearling bucks from Trophy deer on ranches in Texas. Additionally we spend approx 20k per year on protein pellets to supplement their diet. The whitetail we have have some amazing racks but the bodies compared to Midwest deer are small. We also have exotics: Axis and Black Buck on the property. We hunt year round.

Last year A&M had arguably the worst DC in decades. So glad he is gone to Auburn. The joke is on them. And our secondary was crap. The worst A&M defense in decades. With high end transfers in the secondary, an Elko defense, and the best DL and LB group in a long time, most believe we will have a top 15, maybe top 10 defense in the country. It will be the best defense ND plays before the CFP but nobody knows how many point ND scores. But if I had to guess, I say 24. But one thing is certain, don't judge this years defense based off last year given the wholesale changes.

Just have to scheme around him in the run game. Nobody is drive blocking this mule off the ball one on one. Have to find his weakness and make his big ass work - chip him, hook him and get outside. Cut him every single time he's on the backside of a run. Stay on double team a tick longer, etc etc. Have to get him tired and thinking.

The offensive line has to play well as a unit to overcome individual inexperience.
I doubt Knapp will be 1-on-1 very often Saturday. He’ll have help from TEs, backs and/or guards on most plays.

You beat me to it. Every Aggie beat guy I listened to acknowledged that the secondary was horrible last year & now it’s a matter of the transfers to gel as a unit.

Same w/ their OL. They had nowhere to go but up. Got rid of the dead wait & brought in solid starters from other programs. Now it’s a matter of determining their best 5.

It's a mental trap that most everybody falls for. They use the prior year's team as a baseline and adjust from there. ND struggled to score against good defenses last year. I think this ND team's prior year's performance is even less relevant than usual due to the changes in coaching and personnel. But it's going to drag down everyone's perception of ND until they see the 2024 team in action.

This game will not fit any of the pre-ordained scripts and be a shootout.

Sampson picked A&M. Lame.
Don't take it personally. It's a job first of convenience to him since he's tethered to the area via his breadwinner-wife’s vocation. Much like the Good Ole Boy chipping off about $15k or so a year from Priester will he's stuck around a bunch of Yankees up here in non-SEC Land.

It's secondly a job of general disinterest to him because I imagine he just kinda had to attempt to force himself to like football in general and ND football in order to find his first journalist gig around the area. I'd imagine the poor chum feels something like Olbermann having to slum it covering icky lowbrow sports all those years at ESPN.

His obvious lack of zeal and deeply tucked away disdain for his plight comes through loud and clear when he has to answer the II subscribers continual dorky prop bet questions on the podcast--although I'd probably feel the same way if I had to opine as to whether I thought Kedren Young would average +/- 2.5 carries per game this season for a living.

I imagine it must be something to spend so much time in Junction as an Aggie

I have no doubt your D will be better this year, but it’s the first year with everyone learning it. I suspect there are going to be some misreads, missed assignments or slow to read the play which may lead to some big gains.

That was a narrative created by Prister, then Sampson ran with it.
ND was so annoyed by it, they did something they usually don’t do…they went out of their way to make a statement about a single player being healthy, midweek, without being directly asked about him.
Driskell on his show back then said he asked a ND coach directly over message & that coach replied he had no idea where any of this was coming from, that Cross was completely healthy.
Then of course Sampson, just days ago, says he doesn’t know how healthy Cross is, but “he knows for a fact” that Cross will be diminished. LOL

I can’t stand when media lock on to something that is wrong, but they can’t admit they either made it up or exaggerated it, so they just push it for weeks.
Cross told 247 he was healthy.
A ND coach told sites Cross was healthy.
ND PR put out a statement Cross was healthy.
Yet, just this week Prister, Sampson & OMalley are talking like he is not healthy.
So now Marcus Freeman says he’s not on a pitch count.
Knock it off Coach D we all know nobody on staff likes you.

Fun fact: A&M (3-7) has just 1 more win than ND (2-0) does against LSU in the last decade, and we've only played them twice. You guys play them every year.
The Tigers don't scare us, and I feel like we've made up some ground on Bama in the last few years, especially with the departure of Saban. Wouldn't be scared to play the SEC West.

To be fair, A&M was in the Big XII for half of those seasons since 2000, and they never finished better than 3rd in their division. More often, they were in the bottom half of the Big XII South.
