We will know very early on if this team is for real. If they come out fired up with their hair on fire and act like a Top 10 team they will win soundly...if they come out like has been the norm for a while in a big road atmosphere they will get rolled.

Either way, they have 11 games after the first one to play and if anyone's hair is actually on fire we're going to have guys in the burn unit of the local hospital which would indicate bigger problems.

First line was its an away game and freeman is not a great coach yet. He went to Duke, coached against Mike Elko, and won.

And this was a televised night game on the road, so Duke and it's fans were going to be amped up, like most road environments. It may not have been a pretty win, but to dig deep and pull this one out tells me MF has their attention. A lot of teams would have just folded.

It's called being relevant, which you either are or are not and certain people in this fan base can't have it both ways to suit whatever their agenda might be. You either are or you are not.

Duke was 4-0 going into that game. It had to be the biggest football game played on that campus in decades.

I haven't seen +4 anywhere. Most are still +1 with a couple as much as +2.5.

Except when it mattered. ND D gave up 2 second half touchdowns to almost lose the game despite a miracle from hartman. But yes, the D was ready to play, but did not adjust well in the second half to their overload run game with Leonard. He probably almost rushed for 100 yards.

Yes we were short 2 wrs, but that didn't prevent Tobias from having a 0 catch day despite playing almost every snap. It also didn't prevent us from utilizing staes a lot more. Probably part of why he's no longer with the program. You had a TE that could run faster than some of our WRs but didn't utilize him despite evans getting doubled. In summary, yes we were down 2 WRs, but our offensive game plan was moronic and unprepared.

It won't matter. We could win 28-0 and some will complain that we should have scored more, only got a shutout because and A&M penalty wiped out a TD or with 2:00 to go, Denbrock should have been airing it out to give WR's more reps.

I think most/a lot of fans believe we should absolutely win this game, but have concerns on what it would mean if we don't. That's where I'm at.

It's an uneasy feeling not knowing what to expect in this game since it's so hard to tell how good you really are until you start playing for real.

Agree. This is his 3rd year, with a 3rd year DC, and a stud OC, and stud talent everywhere.

Elko is going into his first year, first game, and a re build (albeit with significant talent). Both teams are going to make mistakes but man, this is one ND needs to have. Elko is focusing on rebuilding, figuring out who they will be, and game planning for ND. ND/Freeman is focusing on A&M.

Thank God we have the ONE person in the world who wants to beat Elko more than he wants to beat MF - and THAT'S MY QUARTERBACK. Riley going to will us to victory.
