I can't say enough how big it would be if we land both Blair and Zackery on top of our current DB commits. Could be a haul that is referenced for a long, long time. I'd be paying Mickens coordinator money just to stay as a position coach until a coordinator job opens up for him here.
I may be a moron here as far as it goes with the new hotness in defending college football offenses but its always been my opinion that you need a top notch secondary to truly stop these pass happy teams these days. It seemed to me that even Saban had just accepted the fact that offenses mostly cant be stopped if done correctly. I dont agree. Get me a handful of great secondary athletes, a good scheme week in and out and some pressure on the QB and good things happen.

This is very true. Good pass rush probably helps as well.

The litany of rule changes and ticky tacky PI calls have not helped, but I think a great deal of what can cure defenses is proper coaching. I hate face guarding. Turn and look for the damn ball. Everyone tries to strip the ball and cause fumbles now, too. Tackle the bastard to the ground rather than give up another ten yards. Tackle and get to the huddle.

Defenses have always had to play catch up, but I feel like the way secondaries are coached are not doing anyone any favors on that end of the ball right now.

As Woody Hayes said when asked why he didn't pass more, he replied, "When you pass three things can happen and two of them aren't good".

Did Saban ever not have a handful of great secondary athletes, good schemes, and pressure?

Exactly, it's not like he was in Iowa City and forced use white guys at corner.
Cooper DeJean is going to get straight profiled into a safety spot. He'll be great at it and natural order will be restored.

Riley Moss is a white CB from Iowa (2021) playing CB in the NFL. So enough with the Jason Sehorn talk

Driskell is saying that ND is the clear leader for Blair right now, and that ND "would have to blow this one to not get Blair."

To refresh, Blair is announcing on July 5th.
Still have Jamir Joseph as well who visits next weekend, and will announce sometime after he visits Penn St on the 14th. Alot have wondered if we would take both and maybe use Golden on both sides. Good problem to have in my opinion, but were still waiting on 2 LBs and 2 WRs.

There’s no way they keep Long or Thomas if Blair commits, right?
Why wouldn't they? They lose Watts and Heard after this year plus Ford who switch from RB-S, and you can't always bank on everyone sticking around. They were already light at Safety. Plus Urlacher most likely grows into a LB at some point. Bringing in 4 Safeties in perfectly fine. Also a guy like Golden can play WR.
