Both Norvell and DeBoer come with big risk, imo. DeBoer’s defense at Washington straight up stunk. Norvell lost a bowl game by a zillion points.

You're replacing Nick Saban. Everyone comes with big risk.

The circumstances and context of that one game would not be a reason to hold back from hiring Norvell, especially now that their list is dwindling and he's one of the ones left. I know it happened two weeks ago and for some folks 1993 feels like two weeks ago, but come on already. He beat LSU twice when he had a full roster and went to Gainesville with a backup QB and got the win. Maybe the body of work balances out despite having a third of his roster missing against UGA.

Jimbo and Willie Taggart left FSU a mess. This guy takes over, in 2020 no less, and by year three they're a 10 win team. Year four they go 13-1. That's the kind of normal trajectory an administration used to be able to look at and say "this is what we're looking for." He's also actually been in the south before as a player and coach.

DeBoer is a very weird fit from a tribal standpoint, and yes, he'd have to adjust significantly going from the PAC 12 to the SEC. I still think he'd have to bring Ryan Grubb with him as OC if he goes to Bama with that said.

So it's a guy who has spent his entire career nowhere near SEC Country, or bust? OK.

The hire should be Dabo. Despite his unwillingness to change with the times, he knows how to run a program. It’s a no brainer, imo.

I know they said they'd announce someone this week but there is no reason why Alabama needs to move fast here. Would be crazy for them to wind up promoting Rees jsut b/c of some self-imposed deadline. They don't even have the continuity issues we did when BK left to worry about. Maybe they lose a recruit or two but it's still Bama.
Take a breath, look around. It's a pretty great job. Someone good/qualified will want it even if it's not a sitting coach at another CFB powerhouse.

Sexton has Lanning, Kiffin, De Boer, Franklin and Norvell. He could come out of this week with new contracts for all his top clients

It would create such a seismic shift in culture, I’m not sure it would ever sort itself out. It would be akin to Navy ditching the triple option and deciding to go Air Raid.
