Now he's saying Harvey is the top guy for ND and it looks good. I assume that's pretty sourcey info too.

Harvey was a much better player in 2022 than 2023. It is quite clear statistically, but he did play well in quite a few games this season for Miami when he wasn't asked to carry a heavy workload.

I would say the experience should win out. That’s not how it always works though.

How long does it take Riley to grasp the under center concept? How long does it take for him to adjust to the more traditional style offense with play action opposed to RPO? If it takes all summer and until week 11 give him Steve.

Loy is saying he's top of the charts for ND. Very serious probability he's ND at this point.

Loy was right on Leonard too although he was much more "wink wink" about Leonard a couple days ago.


He's "nudge nudge" about this guy.

But also says he’s a secondary player and not a starter.

Doesn’t mean he can’t be helpful.

Yeah. Leonard was still in high school in 2020, so he doesn't get a COVID year, does he? And then played 4+ games as a freshman, sophomore and junior at Duke.

Though I’m not sure either would accomplish what we ultimately want. I think a lot of QB’s could win 10 games with next years schedule. The goal should be finding the guy that can win all 12. That becomes insanely difficult when passes are not consistently completed or pressure out on the defense. What do teams that win 11 or 12 games have in common?

UGA (Carson Beck): 71% and 9.4
UM (Captain Dipshit): 74 and 9.7
UW (Michael Penix): 65.6 and 9.1
FSU (Jordan Travis): 63.9 and 8.5
Oregon (Bo Nix): 78.6 and 9.7
OSU (Kyle McCord): 65.8 and 9.1
Texas (Quinn Ewers): 69.8 and 8.9
Bama (Jalen Milroe): 66.4 and 10.6

They have QB’s that complete passes at high clip or create big plays in the passing game. Some do one, some do both. None do neither. Which is where Leonard falls.

Is it impossible? No, it’s not. But it would be the exception, not the rule. And with this offensive coaching staff, not sure I’m betting on the exception.

How does Leonard compare with Jalen Milroe? In my limited viewing/mild interest, I see both with legs and a big arm, but a little raw.

And I do wonder how much of Leonard's low completion percentage accounts to Duke's weak WRs and OL - our defense certainly affected his passing game - and would be (hopefully) better when surrounded by our roster.

Eh, I don't think you can blame Parker for that.

His targets were low, because he missed several easy catches. If you drop the ball and make mental errors, you're not going to get as many targets. I also don't think Hartman trusted him, so even if he was open downfield, Hartman was probably hesitant to hit him.

Yes and no, definitely didn’t have trust in staff or Hartman in regular routes, but at minimum one shot a game should have happened. Even when it didn’t get caught it loosened up the defense for a little. We only took one shot with him in the 4 games we played bad, that was a near completion second play vs duke.

JJB similarities are striking, though he’s definitely more of a Vyper than Baptiste was. Tall and fast, not as long in the arms for his height. Could put on some weight it looks, we’d need him to improve setting the edge, but could play in space by his film

I only watched Leonard against Clemson and ND. He looked good vs Clemson, but less than average against ND.

He has two years of eligibility left. He could be the guy for two years. He will have a better running game and OL (hopefully) at ND than he did with Duke. If WRs can take just a 20% jump next season, it could be something to we’d all enjoy.

You know who else looked bad against ND this season? Every other QB, including the prior year's Heisman winner who was still on a path to a 2nd Heisman until ND acetoned his fingernails.

I would love to have Leonard. His running ability with our super athletic RBs could create some serious binds for defenses next year. We could easily see his completion percentage increase in our system (if we can find good tackle replacement(s)). Our TEs will also be better and our WRs are likely better and potentially much better if we add a TP WR.

No comparison in terms of offenses....2 are Lambo's and 1 is a Camry. It's not like he's coming from a Miss St degree either. ND's policy has been that they will only accept undergrad transfers if they can still graduate in the original 4 year window. It's virtually impossible for an incoming Junior to get admitted to ND as a transfer. I think up to this point, it has been unfathomable that a rising Senior could transfer into ND. I'm guessing that there has never been anyone that has been admitted as an incoming Senior (athletic or non-athletic).

In terms of a graduate transfer coming from Duke to ND, with what they offer as opposed to Oregon makes zero sense.

ND was able to get Brandon Joseph through admissions and he wasn't a grad transfer. Leonard wasn't a EE so I doubt he'll have his degree. If they get Leonard through admissions my theory is that they're able to take non-grad transfers who are more than 1 year out of HS as long as they come from elite academic institutions, like Northwestern and Duke. The same thing would probably apply to players from Stanford and Vanderbilt.

The only exception to the rule I can think of is Brandon Joseph as I am 99% sure he wasn't a grad transfer and enrolled as a senior. It's certainly not possible for the average student which is my top concern here. ND thinks they can get him in and they've already passed on Howard. Then admissions puts a halt to it.
