A lot of IFs, but Cam Rising would be my first choice and Michael Pratt from Tulane would be my second choice IF we were to bring in a transfer QB next season (IF both were in the portal)... & To be honest, I rather have a new, proven OC over a top QB transfer for next year.

I have a lot of optimism for Angeli and Minchey. Yes, Angeli's release may look slow but yesterday he showed great ability to deliver the ball where he was supposed to. I mean those routine throws/screens were really well executed not to mention his roll-left, square-up TD to Cooper F.

Minchey has peak curiosity at this point. No idea what we have but he has a lot of tools. I wish one of them would surge this spring/summer. But I'm always open to bringing in the best possible option at all positions. I just hope one of our homebrewed guys shows out.

Pretty much no chance this happens but I'm curious to see what this board thinks. Which of the following would you rather have for 2024?

-Michael Pratt
-Riley Leonard, plus Graham Barton (LT) and DeWayne Carter (DT) who Leonard recruits to stick around and come with him to South Bend

Agree. If I had to choose, give me an OC next year. I don’t know enough about the available QBs to know which I would want, but Cam Rising has played and produced at a high level on the big stage, hard to pass that up.

I just don’t understand the hype with Leonard. Give me Pratt all day. If not him, then Rising.

If Pratt or Rising (if health checks out) or Leonard want to come you can’t tell them no. It gets dicier if ND strikes out on the top choices.

I'm in for Pratt and Rising, hands down. I'm passing on Leonard. I'm also not any higher on Angelli after yesterday. He made a good throw for TD, that doesn't move the needle for me. Id be disappointed if we have a QB on roster who doesn't make that throw.

There's also probably like 8 QBs who would be really good that we're not aware of yet.

Yeah. Leonard didn't impress that much when we played them, and seems like he's basically been hurt since. I'm not clear why he's thought of as a first round pick?

I very much think we should take a transfer, but if it's not Pratt or a (healthy) Rising, I'd almost rather get someone who plausibly might get beat out by Angeli or Minchey, as opposed to someone to whom we just and the job. Leonard would be coming here to up his draft stock after a disappointing second half to this season; he'd want assurances he's going to play. That was fine for Hartman but I'm not sure he's at that level.

I think the key thing here is that ND how has a separate QB coach as opposed what they had with Rees.

After every play Angeli ran to the sideline and talked with Gino (Marcus was also involved) and I think that is a good thing.

We can assume that all of these QB's are going to transfer, but if they are good enough their current coach will re-recruit them to stay.

I don't care if we open up at A&M next season, the current players know what they sign up for when they commit to ND.

I hope the rest of our season plays out like it did yesterday and Angeli can get some PT.

I still think ND got lucky with Hartman for 2023; I think Parker's system isn't helping him.

It's Angeli in 2024 for me.

The second one. I still got a big confused faced from the interview with Blake Fisher preseason where sounded like wanted to stick at right tackle.

I know it was against Pitt and their second string but that TD throw Angeli had there aren’t 10 QB’s making that throw in college this year

We had two of them last year, one could not make that throw and the other couldn’t do it with consistency. I would say Angeli is developing well and has had very little burn out there to show he can’t be more at ND. Same with Minchey for that matter. Take a QB transfer in the portal, fine. I agree with that. But no guarantees for the starting spot like their were for Hartman. In this case, it’s strictly for the competition and not as a merc tutelage. OC is where our focus needs to be.
And both those QBs were very disappointing. Agree he shouldn't be handed the job and Angelli and Minchey should still get their fair shake to win the job.

I'm frustrated by how little we know about Minchey. Would be nice if he could get the next set of back up, live reps.

Our QB situation is presenting itself as a good one to have.

While concerned like you and others, I am starting to believe Biagi (sp?) has done a decent job with Angeli. Yes, he is lacking in speed and experience, but he projects recognition and poise plus seems bought in out there which are positive signs of development.

Completely agree on Minchey. Hopefully, we will see them both more these next few weeks. It will also mean ND is doing it’s job early and putting teams away.
Guidugli. Biagi is the ST coach.

But yeah we’ve seen enough of Angeli that he’s starting to feel like a viable option next season. Hopefully we see same from Minchey, who probably has a higher ceiling. We should definitely take a transfer but if it’s not Pratt or Rising, it still feels like things will be OK.

This is where I am at as well. We need both Angeli and a transfer - at worst Angeli would be a very solid #2. I don’t know much about Pratt other than stats, but I think Rising would be as effective as Hartman (albeit in a different way) assuming he is healthy.

I had my mind set on Pratt last year. If that ship set sail only to circle back around again, I would not be complaining at all.

Cam Rising would be a lot more of an unknown should he miss an entire season. Part of what was so great about Hartman was he'd played in a lot of games. Rising would really need spring ball and summer camp to get the rust knocked off.

I'll cross this bridge when it comes but I'd be pretty good with Pratt or Rising as options if ND could get either. Buys them time with Minchey and Carr long term.

Fuel up the hype train. Cam owns the middle of the field, the most difficult throws for a college QB to make. I'd say clearly faster/more athletic than Hartman too.

Also experienced throwing to slow WRs. The RPO with him and Love would take this offense to the moon.

QB injuries are controlable to a large degree. He acts like a battering ram, but ND can control that. Want to reemphasize his ownership of the middle of the field. So hard to stop a QB who can do that. I'm all in if he's the target.

SIAP, but did Notre Dame ever recruit Cam Rising when he was in high school?
Doesn't look like we offered or were ever a player in his recruitment. Rising initially committed to Oklahoma, then flipped to Texas. Had offers from USC, Bama, LSU.
That was the year we took Phil who, IIRC, locked in pretty early and we were all quite happy with. Ha.
