Did Sam Hartman get any known $$ from the FUND, or directly from any other ND source/booster? Keep hearing it's different for grad transfers, and curious if he had to carve his own path (Just for me, Beats, etc.), or if ND is actually giving money for grad transfers?

Welcome to ND, Michael (also nothing groundbreaking in that tweet but let's keep the smoke billowing)

hate to see him leave tulane for another college team, but it may as well be the Irish. will have some stiff competition for his services i'd imagine. doubt we'd lose any qbs to the portal as it'll a sophomore and two freshmen.

i'm sure all grad transfers get a deal from the FUND. not like they're high schoolers who need to prove their worth.

We should be trying to get Aidan Chiles from Oregon State. That guy is going to be a stud. Too bad they are forcing the Beavers out for being too dominant. Maybe we will still see them in the playoffs next year.

He looks good, but I think we want more of a 1-yr, grad transfer rental -- Right? Otherwise, room is too crowded

Everything you just said +1

Angeli and Minchey saw how Hartman prepared, executed in games and leaning from the #1 ACC QB in yards thrown isn't something to laugh at. They saw the good and the bad but I think it was extremely beneficial for them. I don't think any of us would trade 2-3 more losses this year just to see Angeli/Minchey get more snaps.

Also, Hartman coming to ND will open doors for future players.

These are dividends paid in the coming years.
Fair enough. What about for 2024? We put off Angeli/Minchey again? At some point ND has to put one of these guys on the field. OSU & PSU did it and it’ll likely cost them a game(s) this year but both teams are in good position this season (PSU is overrated IMO) and should set up nicely for next year. Clemson did the same & the 5-star Klubnik has yet to find his footing.

I think there needs to be a sweet spot for MF to pull the trigger on a guy he recruited to be the man. I get that he got burned by Rees in his first year. Lesson learned. So get someone like Pratt for 2024? Maybe he ends up being what Hartman was supposed to be and gets ND to upper echelon. That would mean losing Angeli or Minchey which is understandable. But then what? Dig into the portal every year for one year rental? Is Gino Gudigli that bad that he couldn’t develop a QB based on his CFB experience & current coaching resume?

Part of the trouble is the oldest and only QB with game experience in our pipeline is the one with the lowest ceiling.

Unless Minchey overtakes him in camp, Angeli is probably our best option to start against A&M next year. But long-term we (hopefully) have better options in Minchey, Carr, Deuce.

If you give the job to Angeli, who’s to say he’s not just blocking them a year from now? Too effective to bench but not THAT good. We’ve seen that story before.

Or you take Pratt, wish Angeli/Minchey well if one of them decides to move on, and spend the next year developing Carr/Minchey for 25 and beyond while also winning a lot of games in the short-term. It’s a win-win.

One year of Pratt and this Qb room shouldn't have any worries for a long time. We need to go all in. It would buy some valuable time to let the others develop.
It's crazy how set we are if we get just one more Pratt/Rising/Comparable. ND's QB problems would be behind us for 4 straight years and likely beyond (6 straight years collectively if include Sam).

What a time to be alive.

We're not guaranteed to get Pratt but I think ND has a lot to offer and the guy is already academically minded; and the 12-team playoff is going to open so many more teams to have a shot (the game is changing and will be more like The NFL playoffs - A lot of teams will now have a shot!). So sure he can go to LSU or some other top 15 but are his chances that much greater to win the NC? And if he wants experience and TV exposure well ND gonna give 'em all that (although '23 was a great schedule for big games). And hopefully, whoever we get, has a little-known soft spot for ND which will seal the deal!

And although all are saying JJ McCarthy to the NFL if Michigan implodes, maybe he decides he wants another shot at CFB glory before giving the NFL a try and maybe he still has a soft spot for ND, who knows?

Hartman said he was done playing college football this time last year too

Pratt didn't even say he was done playing college football. He just said he's focused on this season right now. Which he should be!

It's going to be tough to beat out Miami FL for Pratt in my opinion.
He is a South Florida kid, and they will have a stacked roster next year with all the NIL money he could ever want.
It would be very impressive if we were able to convince a kid from Boca Raton FL, who went to college in New Orleans to come spend his time in South Bend.
Best of luck to the staff, because he would be a game changer for sure.

Well if that happens, then why not go after Tyler Van Dyke who should be a grad transfer with a year of eligibility remaining?

That's contingent on TVD leaving early for the draft, which I don't see happening. He's on the fringe of the top 10 QBs in the '24 Draft.

He's better suited to come back in '24, because the '24 QB class is way too stacked.

And Miami hasn't exactly set the world on fire under Cristobal. I don't see this supposedly stacked roster that you claim.

The other Florida schools scare me more in all honesty. UF isn’t going to let Mertz 2.0 happen and NIL might actually come through this time. FSU has been big on acquisition fees and Travis is gone after this year.

Tyler Van Dyke has been pretty poor for Miami since the Texas A&M (minus Temple & Bethune) game when you look at the numbers. He likely would have been benched for the young kid Emory if they lost to UVA at home last week. I’m not sure what happened to him, but I don’t think he will be much of a draft prospect, or viable transfer option come the summer.

Yes, this is a very good point. I should have said all Florida schools worry me for Pratt…especially F$U

I would be absolutely shocked if TVD is the Miami FL QB at the start of next year.
He isn’t a Cristobal recruit, and hasn’t been very good the last four weeks.

Also, they have the current 247 ranked 8th class
2022 was 13th in the country as per 247
2021 was 11th in the country as per 247

They have a 6-2 record this season and thier one loss was one the worst losses in recent memory for any program where the game was literally won.
They beat Texas A&M handily when they still had thier first string QB earlier in the year.
They could loss thier last four games and finish terribly, but for a second year coach I would say he is doing fairly well as of now.
He recruits as well as anybody in the country.

With that much talent on the roster, and a star transfer QB they could very likely be in a 12 team playoff next year.

Yeah I wouldn't at ALL assume we're going to get Pratt, or beat ourselves up if he chooses LSU or one of the Florida schools. They have some hometown advantages here. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. We should also try for Rising and the guy from K State.

We recruit Missouri well, wouldn't be surprised if we can get traction with that guy.
