Braylon to me is Tobias in physical makeup. Have to wonder how close the coaches are to saying "what do we have to lose", and eyeing the upcoming BYE week for a potential transition.

Post BYE we conveniently have 4 scheduled games (RS implications).
Braylon is a little more "twitchy" than Tobias, if that makes sense. There is nothing sudden about Tobias's routes.

The evidence is in the inability to create separation all night when 1-1. His big catch the defender fell down.

Rico clearly is way ahead mentally, physical toughness/strength, and has really good hands.

He can become a very good WR despite IMO being on the slower not quick side. I just feel the odds are less, due to seeing him in person really struggle getting separation vs duke.
He's pretty quick. He embarrassed the OSU db last week 1 on 1 for a TD as a true freshman.

actually it was a blown coverage, but good play none the less

On who? The safety? Linebacker? Ohio State was in man coverage.

Flores just swatted the CB two yards off from the line of scrimmage.

It was trips to the left. OSU had all the receivers covered. Eichenberg went in motion to follow Price's motion. Steele Chambers was in the middle of the field and stayed hovering at the goal-line. Unless you are saying Chambers should have dropped deeper? Even if he did, he wouldn't have been able to close that amount of distance between himself and Flores in two seconds.

Am I the only one that is clamoring to see this kid get a chance? He might not be able to block as well as Tobias but I can find no excuse not to get him in on a rotation here and there. Hartman can drop a dime and he has the ability to get past corners and open.

oh just put a package in there for him....FOR WHAT...if the kid can't crack the 2 deep after 3 of our wr's are down, you really think the coaches wouldn't put him out there if he could help?? if this "package" for him gets called and the play gets changed at the line and he hasn't a clue where to get lined up, it could end up causing an unnecessary time out....run the wrong route and it gets picked....just because a guy isn't playing doesn't mean there is some magic that isn't happening because he isn't out there. Hell for everyone complaining for him to play, it was the same thing as Tobias last year....and see what he has been doing thus far....1 big play.....but the casuals on here think they have the answers when in reality the fucking coaches who see them playing at practice might just know something more....and he has been the guy behind ALL of the freshmen wrs since camp and reported he would likely redshirt this year because he was behind the others

and if the coaches actually thought he could, he would be out there....simple as that....he must be a liability at this point

We get these types of posts and inquiries about kids every. Single. Year.

Last year it was Tobias....come to find out that there was a reason he wasn't playing much...that's on full display this season as he's getting plenty of playing time.

It's not like the coaches forget they have this guy on the roster. We had 3 healthy WRs last week and he still didn't crack the rotation. That should be telling enough, but someone has to ask the question. The coaches aren't stupid, and, unfortunately, we can't watch practices. But clearly, he's just not ready.

I hope he becomes a good WR because he does have more athleticism than most of our current WRs.

With that said, he's not ready. You can tell in warmups, he's still figuring it out. Isn't quite comfortable with all the routes and drops some easy balls.

Although i stated Rico isn't as athletic as I hoped, you can see he knows how to play the WR position better. How he tracks a ball and snatches it when he catches it.

It wouldn't shock me if Louisville or USC he plays (if we're not healthy at WR). ND probably didn't think they needed him vs duke until it was too late in the week when Greathouse twinged his hammy. Braylon now potentially has a full week to get meaningful reps he probably wasn't getting as much of because i'm sure thomas and greathouse if available this week aren't goin to have their normal workload during the week or in the game (especially thomas).

It's the Jordan Johnson effect.... how soon we forget

(not saying BJ is JJ for those who can't figure that out on their own and want to read way to far into something, some random guy posed online)

This..... All this

It's maddening the calls from people on this board over the years calling for certain players to get playing time. Jurkovec, Johnson, Merriweather, Kollie etc etc. High recruiting ranking must mean that they deserve to play .... coaches in person evaluations (based upon performance in practices) be damned.

WRONG: According to some on this board, and others elsewhere, it is the coaches fault for not developing the players. It's not the kids job to work hard and be responsible for their development

Great list:

Benched at BC and Pitt
No catches at UCF
Struggling currently
No tackles at Vanderbilt (Under the great Clark Lea!)

Might be true but I actually think people that want to see James is more bc we were so thin at WR and Merriweather hasn’t performed. He might not be “ready”, but we didn’t have much else to work with Saturday. He’s a body. This is also in part due to IB saying he dominated our corners in practice. That’s not easy to do.

Merriweather had a drop, a flop, and a PI all on one play on the game deciding drive. Probably never happened in CFB before.

However unready James is, I'll die on the hill we have nothing to lose. We also don't know how close the coaches are to making the switch. For all we know Stuckey says he's ready and MF is being cautious, or vice versa. It could be razor thin. We've seen coaches sit for too long before (Dexter Williams).

Would love to have a Michael Floyd type wr stud on this team. This would be a heckuva year for it.

Umm, hello, we have Rico Flores who is the most complete WR to ever come out of HS. Don't believe me, list 3 of his strengths and a single weakness and wait to be abused.

Yup. First time Tobias went out last year he was supposed to go in motion, but didn't. The play was broken at the snap and Pyne had to basically run for his life and take a big hit. Not knowing your job can have drastic effects on the offense and can even lead to players getting hurt.

I wonder, though, if they’ve considered putting him in to run go routes like Golden Tate ran when he was a frosh. Seems like that could work unless he can’t track the ball well. 🤷‍♂️

Nice strawman, Ding.
Not a strawman. His toughness, catch in traffic ability, and simply being ready to play as a freshman were all praised, while saying he isn't built to get separation because he lacks the speed.

Not my fight, but the points made were quite fair (and by someone who watched him in person).
