Great Dayne

Great Dayne

(Via the Roundup.)

for the cheesy title. Just thought I'd pass along the news that Irish commit Dayne Crist has been named one of five finalists for the 2008 U.S. Army Player of the Year award:

The U.S. Army Player of the Year award is given to the nation's most outstanding senior in high school football.

...

The U.S. Army Player of the Year will be crowned during the U.S. Army Awards Dinner on Friday, January 4, 2008, in San Antonio. The winner will be presented with the Ken Hall Trophy, modeled after Ken Hall, high school football's all-time leading rusher.

Crist was 134 of 232 passing for 2,178 yards, 16 touchdowns, and one interception in ten games this year before having to miss his team's last game of the season with a concussion.

outstanding athlete! stands tall in the pocket, but is athletic enough to move around. Great arm strength, makes the tough throws. would be an excellent addition to the Irish. Charlie will probably want to red shirt him in order to let him develop and make a difference later. great find.

Even though many feel he will push JC for the starting job. That is the plan and Dayne said that he is fine with sitting behind JC until it's his time. He really is mature for his age, not to many 18 year olds could look past the immediate future to see the big picture. He'll be well groomed for the NFL when the time comes.

Dayne appeared on this week's Gen Next to celebrate being one of the two QBs named to Tom Lemming's AA team. During the segment they let the recruits ask each other a recruiting question and Darrell Scott asked Dayne if he would decommit from ND and join him at whatever school he choose. Dayne said he would, but only if Darrell would then turn around and commit to ND and do a joint press conference with Dayne in which he would recommit to ND.

Dayne then asked Darrell if it would be ok to tell the which school Darrell said he was going to when they were talking off air back stage. Then Darrell got a little figity and tried to claim he didn't know what Dayne was talking about, but they were all laughing and having a good time. Then later in the interview Darrell said that his short list was final and that no other schools would join the list because he said that he was a Florida boy and it was too cold in the north. Then when they started teasing him about Colorado and how it can get pretty cold there too he started defending them and pointing out all their great indoor facilities. Just based off of what I've heard so far and how he reacted along with his body language when he was talking about Colorado I think he's going to end up as a Buff.

If that's the case they have really turned it around this year. Good for them

I saw the show a week ago when they had Darrell on he wouldn't say that he didn't give CU a silent verbal on his trip. I think he's all CU unless one of his visits changes his mind. He also said that any coach that tells him he's starting from day 1 is a liar, his own words, and said that you have to compete, no matter what is said. He's a good kid, I look forward to watching run wild in college. I sure hope he goes to CU too.

That would be awesome if he came here to Colorado, do they really have a solid lead for him or what??

Just watched an interview with Dayne from nbcsports.com

Loved what he had to say in the interview about ND and the recruiting class. Also intrigued as to what he meant by saying there are 22 guys committed right now with a few more probably on the way

---The interview is almost a month old and it's when we had Omar still committed. he "expected" us to add a couple to that list......Gerell didn't come and Deion did and theres a couple of others out there, but I don't think he knows anything we don't right now.

He has got a rocket arm. Passes were crisp, but he had some accuracy issues during the AA game with the exception of the bomb to Floyd.

Let the comparisons to Quinn begin...

FYI, Dayne and Anthony will be on campus this Thursday with their families to move in for summer classes.

Just listened to Dayne Crist on Power Hour. Most of you may already be familiar with what a great person he seems to be, but he really impressed me the most in this interview. Dayne was on for about 20 minutes. he spoke about numerous things...family, notre dame, charlie weiss, jimmy clausen etc... What impressed me the most was his relationship with all the Notre Dame players and recruits. He is the epitome of leadership and class. He speaks with all his classmates regularly by phone to keep a close tight knit family environment. Also, as soon as he found out that Alex Bullard verbally committed to Notre Dame, he called Mike Frank to get his number to wish him congratulations. What a class act. I'm realizing how great of a pickup this was for Charlie and Company on and off the field.

Theres an article on ESPN written by Bruce Feldman giving Crist as outside shot at Heisman. Always good to see our players getting some Heisman love. Especially someone with 3 years of eligibility

Can someone explain his eligibility to me? It says he's a Junior everywhere I read about him, so how does he have three years?

He is a redshirt Sophomore... Notre Dame does not call their "Redshirted" players as having a redshirt. Redshirt Fresh= ND sophomore ie this is why Notre Dame players have to apply for a 5 year of eligibility instead of just being a red shirt senior.

He redshirted his frosh year.

So this is Junior year academically.

Crist can play this season (Junior), next season (Senior), and the following season (5th year Senior).

So Crist still has 3 full seasons of football in front of him.

Oh, I see. I didn't realize Notre Dame wouldn't call their players redshirts. Thanks.

That guy in LA that took ball room dancing probably would have a better chance with Dancing with the Stars.... he has looked like a Spare so far.
