I used to be indy or bust till the wheels fell off! But the deal with the ACC really diminished my view on it. When a conference dictates 5 out of 12 games it makes it seem hollow. In addition, our locked games of USC and Navy and up to recently Stanford makes it even lamer. If we continue to play Stanford we might well just say we're playing 6 ACC teams. I hate the ACC deal.
Staying independence is the definite move for the time being. The conference shuffle isn't finished and it is best to sit tight and wait for the wreckage to end before making any crazy decisions to affiliate with a conference.

First of all independence means point 3 is at our own discretion to do if we feel like. Second you can't complain about the difficulty of our schedule and then turn around and say you want us to play PSU/Michigan/OSU/USC/ and an SEC school.

The difference between the B1G deals and what our new NBC contract will bring in is a rounding error for Notre Dame. The University and program don't care and have been perfectly fine losing money to stay independent for years.
ND is independent. We don't have to schedule Stanford. Joining the B1G is irrelevant to this point.
I would also add that playing Stanford doesn't make them relevant just like playing Duke or Navy doesn't make them relevant.

Getting bent over for playing into ~7 BYEs a year is wild. No one doing rankings gives a shit you played teams with BYEs, but it's a huge advantage. We've been lucky thus far to avoid losses, but games much more close than probably necessary.
