Because he would have never come here. He wants to prove he's NFL worthy.

Watch the interview with him and Alt. I kinda fell in love with him.

I think he's a bigger, better, faster and more handsome Drew Brees and fuck you if you want to argue I'll fight.
I completely disagree, you can work in NFL passing concepts + run slow mesh RPOs. It's not like they're that radically different from normal RPOs.

Hey, listen. I'm no analyst, but I do know the slow mesh looks *nothing* like the NFL and is just weird. It's like a triple option but for passing when you don't have athletes. I also know Sam Heisman didn't want to play in it anymore because nobody in the NFL takes it seriously.

So checkmate. I win. I'm an expert anal-ist.

Idk man, USC does a version of it, and no one is questioning their QB's readiness for the NFL. And they certainly have athletes on offense. Taking good ideas from other places and making them fit your program is a good thing not a bad one IMO.

Freaking amped to see Sam Hartman in action - I believe he has the potential to be incredible.

Freaking scared to see Gerad Parker in action - I believe he has the potential to look very raw as an OC and make us pull our hair out.

Call me crazy, but their combined output as a unit might fall somewhere in the middle.

Parker is almost a complete unknown. All we have is redzone play calling at WVU, and the ND spring game to go off of at this point.

Maybe Gino Guidugli will collaborate with Parker on play calling and that will produce a 2019 LSU or 2022 Tulane season in which similar collaborations occurred?

If we thought the comments about Rees and his play-calling were wild, imagine fast forwarding to our game thread with 13:21 left in the 1Q and directly after our first 3-and-out of the season.

Me at kickoff when ND receives the ball:

I wish Book would've risked throwing it 40 yards down field to all those wide open receivers.
Your sarcasm is un warranted….there were constant film reviews of book not throwing the ball downfield to open wrs and instead checking down. Heck there was video his final year of Kelly getting on him to push the ball. It took book the second half of 2019 to realize if claypool is 1-1 just throw the ball up.

I think some folks are setting themselves up for disappointment regarding Hartman. I think he will be good but he’s a guy who takes risks. ND fans aren’t used to QBs who turn the ball over.

The last QB to take snaps for ND threw 3 INTS in that game.

The one before that had possibly the worst/most back breaking fumble ever in that game.

We will be fine.

I forget who, maybe Thamel, falsely stated that ND wouldn't pay Ludwig's buyout. Pretty sure it was proven incorrect, but ND publicly rolling him out at the hockey game and then Swarbrick sending a letter out scolding fans for their outrage meanwhile asking them for donations was a terrible look.
Thamel (nor any other reporter at that time) didn't falsely report anything. In his response letter that was widely circulated, Swarbrick confirmed Thamel's story by saying, " a national reporter accurately noted that the candidate’s buyout in his current contract was an 'obstacle.'" JS confirmed Thamel's account but then used spin to blame fans for thinking that ND was unwilling to pay the buyout.

If you put all the pieces together, the buyout really was an "obstacle" at first which means it was the thing that was keeping them from getting a deal made while Ludwig was on campus. By the time JS's team got back with Ludwig to make it clear they were willing to pay the buyout it was too late. Ludwig had already changed his mind. JS's response letter was full of spin that did very little to dispel what many thought actually happened behind the scenes.

It’ll be interesting to see if we take another “bridge” QB as a GT after this season. Hartman was just such a natural fit. I’m sure there will be some qualified names out there after this season, as well.
Wouldn't be surprised if they take a GT, but at least they'll have options with Angeli as an upper classman and two promising young guns in Minchey/Carr. QB room is in good shape. If anything else, should be a "high floor" situation, but if a GT raises that ceiling, you have to take one, IMO.

Being a tight end coach would that make him a quasi oline coach?
I think Rudolph and he have that oline on track.

I know Parker has a lot of tools at his disposal but he called a hell of a game to start. Even with the holding penalty, he seemed to keep the defense guessing. I really liked every play call except the Merriweather screen.

I will be curious to watch us against a front seven that's physically equipped to compete but the OL completely dominated that game today. Holes for miles and I think Navy flushed Hartman from the pocket maybe once.

NC State will be a test. That’s my barometer for how this season will go. They have a good defense. Obviously not the best team we will face but they are capable of keeping us in check. Dominate them, and undefeated is obtainable.

The OL looked much much better this year coming out of the gate as opposed to last year, looking forward to seeing them perform against a more traditional defense (i.e. NC State) as well.
