It’s wild to me anyone still cares about this. On top of it being impossible to know how a coordinator hire will turn out ahead of time, I doubt 1% of the board could name the Utah OC before he was a candidate. MF loves Parker which should be all that matters. He clearly stood on the table to get him a year ago considering ND hired a TE coach with a DUI in his past which they never would have done previously. Parker was also in the infamous pics with Freeman and the Utah OC and I don’t you need to read tealeaves to infer that meant Parker was going to very involved in the game-planning if any outside hire came in.

current staffer meeting potential new staffer does not = guaranteed involvement in game planning with new staffer

Because the OC hire after Rees is what's going to make or break Marcus Freeman's tenure as ND's HC. Full stop. I think Parker could absolutely work out and be a good OC...but I know Andy Ludwig is a good OC. Not a great one mind you, but good. Pairing a young inexperienced defensive minded HC with a young inexperienced OC is not (on paper) a recipe for success.

Savvy Jack basically acknowledge he stepped on his dick in the negotiations and then the Utah OC reconsidered due to ND’s tentativeness.

Ludwig was at an ND event with Freeman the night before. You don’t do that if things weren’t going down the right road.

But hey, at leasSavvy Jack isn’t the NU AD, right?

The real question will probably not even come this year. It'll be next year and '25 when Parker is starting a lot of new players with less experience. If he fails this year it's pretty much on him, because he's been handed a golden ticket for '23 basically.

It’ll be interesting to see if we take another “bridge” QB as a GT after this season. Hartman was just such a natural fit. I’m sure there will be some qualified names out there after this season, as well.

Kinda hoping that at least 1 of Minchey/Angeli is good enough that we don't need to go to the portal...short of Drake Maye I suppose.

I think this is the current reality. I think trusting an inexperienced or less experienced Freshman or Sophomore will be a rarity.

While Players can benefit from the Portal, the coaches and programs also have to adjust. Top programs like ND should no longer be hamstrung by an inexperienced or less that exceptional QB room when they can always add one to compete.

Similarly, I think top recruits surely understand for the first year or two they might get recruited over as they mature.

Yes as it stands ND will look to add a QB next year. MF won’t make that mistake twice.

Probably true. Still. Hopefully one of our backups gets enough experience/shows enough this year to be a credible candidate to start next year. Hopefully it’s Minchey (I just think he has a higher ceiling).

Wait till he throws a couple int's, then come with that.

So, do the creative names get more complimentary if he does well early on? And vice versa if he does not?

Can't wait to find out.
Jihad Parka should bring out the best in the fan base, if not the offense.

If we thought the comments about Rees and his play-calling were wild, imagine fast forwarding to our game thread with 13:21 left in the 1Q and directly after our first 3-and-out of the season.

Hartman doesn’t do 3 and outs
I watched the start of the full game replay that someone posted in the Hartman thread of WF vs Clemson.

4 out of the first 5 drives were punts. Three of them were three and outs. As I watched, I couldn't help thinking about the meltdown that would've been taking place in the Gameday thread if that was ND. Bitching about play calling, bitching about Hartman not showing up for a big game.... blah blah blah

I think some folks are setting themselves up for disappointment regarding Hartman. I think he will be good but he’s a guy who takes risks. ND fans aren’t used to QBs who turn the ball over.

This would likely mean 3 straight runs... Would be an interesting statement by Parker to go with three straight runs with Hartman back there

Hartman was under duress a lot… he’s averaged a pick every 40 attempts at wake… pyne and Buchner combined for a pick every 30 attempts last year.

I’d expect Hartman to improve on his wake numbers. I don’t expect to be disappointed in Hartman due to our qb play last year, despite my expectation being he’s our best qb since Quinn.

FWIW, my comment was in jest.

I have high but reasonable expectations for one of the ACC’s all-time passing leaders.

I, for one, am frigging psyched for a QB that is willing and allowed to take some risks. ND needs a gunslinger QB to win the whole damn thing. Not saying it's reasonable to expect this year, but we need it going forward. It's just a matter of trusting the coaches to pick the right guys to do it in the right spots.

This is a good call. He may be the ACC passing leader, but he also attained those stats over basically 4 full seasons when you put all of his seasons/half seasons together. Typically few players that are good enough to start as freshmen are still there 5 years later, they're usually gone. Some scouts have maybe some legitimate concerns about Hartman's abilities at the next level because of the unconventional offense he played under. For his sake and ours hopefully he squashes those concerns this year and just balls out in our offense. I, too, have high but reasonable expectations given the circumstances. I'm hoping he just kills it and exceeds expectations.

I mean, why not take some of the concepts Wake was running and bring them to our offense?

Because he would have never come here. He wants to prove he's NFL worthy.

Watch the interview with him and Alt. I kinda fell in love with him.

I think he's a bigger, better, faster and more handsome Drew Brees and fuck you if you want to argue I'll fight.
