If you ever want evidence that Tommy Rees is a really, really good OC, he had Drew Pyne with a better passer rating and TD:INT ratio than JJ McCarthy. In the MOST ideal world, Rees is our OC and we hire Gino to coach QBs.

Which game did Wimbush get smoked in the hip scoring? That derailed his career. I still remember that BC game, massive.

It's funny that Harbaugh just said McCarthy is a once in a generation QB

Still crazy that Wimbush had a, I believe, 72-73% HS comp pct and then went on to not be able to throw it competently 5 or 10 yards in college. Wild.

I thought he was a future Heisman for sure.

He didn’t throw it much and I think a lot of his completions were just throwing it up to Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Well, how many times do you think Kelly went to Jack asking for upgrades and improvements ect only to be told no. Just like any one of us, we would eventually get to the point where we just say Screw it, and peace out.

PS, not a BK guy
Exactly! Until the Notre Dame administration really makes winning the national title a priority. Every head coach is going to deal with this bullshit Brian Kelley to his credit far as hard as he could to get upgrades and reinvestment in the program. I think Jack clearly respected Brian Kelly, more than he does freeman who is just a very young coach.

So Notre Dame had an average offense last year but LSU that finished 21st is an accomplishment?

Also it’s fucking LSU. Anyone coaching them would have been an improvement over ED Orgeron. Some of you on here are acting like he was coaching Mississippi State
You do realize that going into last season LSU is a turnaround with limited returning production, right? And ND preseason top five before this new coach shit the bed against too awful teams.

In the end, despite the uphill nature of the LSU turnaround BK had LSU finish ahead of ND in the final rankings.

At the end of the day, it’s a Laws losing Brian Kelly with all that experience and success. I will await Marcus Freeman winning 10 games in the regular season to think otherwise.

But the bigger issue is Notre Dame is not truly committed like other programs to win the national title.

Man... it seems Tyler may not even be QB3 anymore.

I'm not a Rees basher, but it seems like real bummer advice to convince the kid to give up his ND degree for this.
What a terrible decision in hindsight. I don’t think Alabama will “take care of him.” I guess he will transfer some place smaller next year. He should’ve looked at Stanford if he didn’t want to stick it out at ND

I certainly don't know this to be the case, but there's a good chance Buchner knows he's not going to the NFL and his main reason for transferring to Bama was to start a career in coaching. A year or two playing under Saban, a year of being a GCA, and he's a leg up on every other coach starting their career.

This is probably why he refused to recruit, he didn't really like golf all that much.

He's going to coach QB decision making and throwing mechanics

If he doesn’t start, it’s kind of a head scratcher as to why they left. Next year Alabama will have three or four QBs vying for the starting job. He may not start a game there! Certainly if he stayed at Notre Dame, he would definitely be in the mix to start next year. Maybe he asked the staff to assure him they were not gonna go into the portal for a QB next year and they could not give them that guarantee and so he left?

Imagine leaving ND where he's probably the Vegas favorite to be '24's QB1 to possibly being the #2 QB at Bama... from San Diego.

I just want to see how good TB really is, I say for Bama to start him.
This is my sentiment. I wish I could see the alternate universe where Tyler stays healthy and is given an opportunity to realize all the potential he has. His ceiling was seemingly limitless once upon a time. Unfortunately, I dont think he will ever again have that chance. But man I wish I could see him give it his best shot.

I remember Hamilton saying that a Heisman wasn’t out of reach with him. And I think a lot of players can see that he has athletic abilities that not many have. But I fear he’ll never have the chance to be everything he could.

There once was a man with tremendous ability to drive the golf ball. He gave it everything he had.
He went to a tournament, and the first hole was 500 yards. He gave it everything he had. The ball landed on the green.
Fans went wild. The next Jack Nicklas. He strode to the green. He gave it everything he had.
His second shot went 500 yards.

"He who does something well, doesn't necessarily do anything else well." Old Mountain saying.

I get it from both TR and TB8. If you’re Rees, you don’t really know what you’ve got in your stable of QBs at Bama after Young graduated. You know absolutely what you’ve got in TB and you’ve got an established relationship there. If he wins the job, great. If he doesn’t, you at least added a depth piece who is familiar with how you operate.

If you’re TB the writing is on the wall. ND already brought in a transfer mercenary this year after you played (arguably) your best game against USCe. Who’s to say ND won’t do it again? Not to mention you’ve got Angeli, Minchey, and CJ coming behind you. Go shoot your shot at Bama and if that doesn’t work, xfer to a G5 school and try again. There’s a lot of places he could start and play.

I don’t think it’s that deep.

I honestly never saw anything that screamed Heisman to me. He’s a spaz in the pocket and makes poor decisions. That and his athletic ability isnt really special. I think Crist, Zaire, and Wimbush had more dual threat ability, IMO. He’s extremely likable though. Seems like a great kid, just wouldn’t want him as my QB.

He’ll have to sit out another year if he transfers again. If he doesn’t start at Bama by next season I think his career is basically over.

They probably had Hartman lined up before the bowl game, TBH.
But whatever. Buchner had to know the score for this season. Next year, I don’t think you make any promises but also he was in the pole position to be our ‘24 starter. If he wanted to shoot his shot earlier, OK. That’s his call. Like you said if it doesn’t work he can go somewhere else next season too.

Not without sitting… it’s pretty obvious going to bama was a mistake. Don’t fault him for leaving though

The coach you’re following is the one that brought someone in over your head. Kinda awkward.
