Because no one at FSU can think of a single instance where private equity has ruined a once proud institution beyond all repair and then stripped it for parts.

Seminole Football about to be brought to you by the Saudi Private Investment Fund.

The only factor is football money.

Not academics, not basketball, not tradition. Football money.

I guess it's hard for me to understand how some people don't quite understand this yet, and there are many. Higher education, geography, competitive equity are punchlines in these board meetings.

College Football has fallen so far down a rabbit hole of greed that there is never any going back again. Which really makes it hilarious when fans of state schools they never attended are also many of the same that talk about how greedy and selfish the athletes are. Ten years ago Oklahoma reported themselves to the NCAA over athletes receiving excessive helpings of pasta. Now Oregon is going to be in the same conference as Rutgers.

When these schools pay multiple head football coaches at the same time, they have no one to blame but themselves.

The B1G's collective annual research budget is an order of magnitude larger than athletics revenues. I just don't see what a school like Oregon has to offer on any front.

I honestly don't know what to root for here. I think, just naturally, I like the carnage, excitement, and change of it all. But taking a step back, I wonder what would be best for ND in the long run? Stay independent and be a 5 seed at best? Stay independent and get revenue you don't have to share? Honestly a big part of me not wanting ND in the Big is I didn't want them to get stuck in a regional footprint. With UCLA and USC in the Big 10, they could still recruit out west...they just need a presence or two in the southeast, and I think maybe it wouldn't force ND into regionalism if they joined...but what do I know? How do we want this to play out for our Irish?

Geographic expansion. In 10 years when the B1G is renegotiating their TV contract they can claim dominance over the whole west coast at this point.

Capping a week of wild swings and manic backroom maneuvering, Oregon and Washington dealt a potential death blow to the Pac-12 Conference by finalizing plans to join the Big Ten, sources confirmed to Sports Illustrated. Formal applications and a formal approval had not yet occurred as of early Friday afternoon, but those steps were expected to taken quickly. The conference had done considerable background work on Oregon and Washington last summer—especially from a financial perspective—as potential additions then, so the process of reassessing them was rapid.

NBC giving us the B Team announcers for our games. Jack may be screwing us over on his way out with the Under Armor deal and now renewing with NBC. If the ACC implodes that's going to seriously hurt the ability to remain independent with a decent schedule. It's already going to be hard to get USC in there I'd guess with the B1G breaking up divisions and expanding.

NBC is probably a good thing. If any deal with the BIG 10 would be done, it would likely involve NBC anyway. I am sure the contract will be written in a way for that to happen.

Yeah. I don't think our TV contract would in any way impede our ability to join the B1G if and when the time comes. And that time is roughly one Clemson-and-FSU-to-the-SEC away from arriving.

I could give a shit about the other three but I do hope Stanford finds a home in this Pac-12 carnage. Though oddly they could probably make it as an independent for a little while, at least in football.

Looks like Utah and ASU will also end up in the Big12 essentially castrating the PAC12. Even if the PAC12 takes in some lesser schools the money isn’t going to be there to support the other sports. Same if the four remaining go to smaller conferences. Lots of kids will be transferring essentially crippling those other sports.
