At the same time, Notre Dame is not making these decisions based on that. Apparel and TV contracts are major business deals. Jack's kids' employment is a side piece.
exactly jacks kid(s) working at these places doesnt make them bad deals.

For those bummed about the prospect of staying with UA, I think it's best to see how it all plays out. According to Prister, O'Malley, and Sampson, they are fairly confident a big part of a new UA agreement will include an NIL component. They foresee players and possibly recruits getting their own individual UA NIL deals. If true and done right, this could actually help recruiting in a big way.
What? This is IE! We demand instant gratification and only with what we want. Not what the school wants.

Schools will tolerate Nike funding NiL for Oregon because it’s their home territory and Oregon sucks. They will tolerate it for Bama and UGA to some degree because they have no choice. But Nike does not have money to fund NIl for every school, and, say, USC is not going to allow Nike to pay one of its recruits to go to Ohio State.

On the othe hand, UA can absolutely find NiL if it is only for ND and Maryland, who don’t compete.
One of my buddies has a son who is a pitcher at Texas Tech (I believe they are still UA). He said every scholarship player got $10k for NIL. Imagine football has to be much higher.

I am not sure that those beat media guys are saying that. Certainly none of them are confident that NIL is a "big" part of the new UA agreement. They've wondered if it would be, or could be, or maybe it should be. But they aren't hearing anything concrete.

I believe Jack when he says it's not a big aspect to a new deal. At most, there will be a NIL deal for Hartman, Olivia Miles, Chris Kavanaugh, etc. and a few star athletes and that's it. It won't be much.

Look, there is a reason why major corporations take specific actions to avoid the appearance of conflicted interests. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But, this is absolutely public knowledge that his kids work at senior positions with companies ND has a significant relationship with. Even if it doesn't impact the decision making process, the mere appearance that it could should be enough for him to recuse himself. He knows this and the fact that he isn't doing it also sends a message. A message that I personally don't like.

One of the newer norms to emerge in recent years is that rather than recusing yourself from these situations, you not only do not, you dive in even deeper than ever.

His replacement will come from NBC and there is a strong possibility one of his last major acts is renewing with UA. It sucks, but that's how the elites function.

That's not a norm. Not at least given what I see I'm my job.

It's very much a norm. Especially if the rules and or laws are not specific that a person should or has to recuse himself/herself from a situation. Some still do the right thing, but then you have very high profile situations where others do not. These situations are playing out presently in state legislatures, state supreme courts, etc. etc. all around the country. And globe, to be fair.

I don't know who Jack's first lieutenant in charge is, but with the UA deal and Jack's time as AD both coming to a close, with Jack's son now a UA employee it would make sense that others at the university be the point people on this new apparel deal. If not, transparency should not be a lot to ask, but I'm sure ND being a private institution means they don't have to disclose much to the public.

I suppose if I were a big time money person at/for ND, I'd want to know where Jack's head is at with this, which is obviously hypothetical and maybe this information is being shared with necessary parties as the negotiations are moving along. It would seem to me that on paper, Nike or a return to Adidas would be the best financially for ND athletics. If that isn't the case, I'd like to see projections that show otherwise.

Meaning UA is paying NIL money directly to student-athletes?

Just to put some context on these types of figures...$30k to every football player at ND would cost over $2.5 million, or nearly a third of the current apparel deal with UA. Add $10k for every other varsity athlete at ND would cost another $7.5 million.

Is this in the ballpark of what people are expecting with the new UA deal?

I don’t think it’s UA money. I believe Texas Tech was one of the first to have a baseline salary for all players.

That I don’t know. I’ll try to find out when I speak to him next. Coulda been a fan collective wanting to compete better in baseball…who the hell knows these days.

Another buddy has a son who pitches for SEC school. His kid got $10K from Wheels Up along w/ free tickets that he can use for his parents/family on their parent airline (American IIRC) to fly to games. That at least makes sense for the players & their families.

I can live w/ another UA deal…not that I have a choice…LOL. But how much more $ is UA going to pony up to retain ND? More importantly, how much of that excess money will go to the football players? My guess is they ND touts how they are reinvesting into academic centers etc for the entire student body…while still increasing tuition. So they double dip while telling the public how generous they are to all their students.

Watch Al Washington's not-cryptic cryptic tweet cause a Nike deal to get cancelled and fans freak out on him even more lol.

Is it possible that he simply had to delete the tweet because saying a competitor's slogan publicly is against the school's contract with UA?

Can someone explain why it’s not important to have this deal done by now? Don’t they have to make uniforms for the season, do all the legal work, and restock the bookstore? I’m guessing it’s not predicated on this football season?
