Don't know why that made me laugh.Fire up the Michael Dingleberry- Head Coach thread
Uh ohPrister and Loy reporting McDermott may be the leader in the clubhouse. Confirmed communication with Shrewsberry as well
McDermott would be a solid hire, but I wonder if he's be able to work the transfer portal at ND like he has at Creighton. He also isn't the world's greatest recruiter either. He gets a lot out of the guys he recruits, but Creighton's recruiting class for next year has one commit. Overall ranking is 104 on 247.Uh oh
McDermott would be an incredible hire, but it's not happening unless ND is throwing around NIL money to recruits and/or starts taking undergrad transfers consistently.McDermott would be a solid hire, but I wonder if he's be able to work the transfer portal at ND like he has at Creighton. His players wanted him to stay. That shows me enough. He apologized, they recognized he wasn't racist, and moved on. You're making it more of a deal than needed right now actually. The Woke police at ND won't let these 2021 comments slide from McDermott without a ruckus.

Greg McDermott suspended by Creighton after racially insensitive comments
Creighton head coach Greg McDermott has been suspended from all team activities for racially insensitive comments he made to his players last week, the school announced Thursday night.www.espn.com
Whatever we all thought of him, Brey held down the job for a very long time. There is something to be said for stability. That being said, it isn't hyperbole to say that this is a major hire because of that alone and I completely agree with you that Micah is the guy for the job in this moment.I'm (31) years old, and I cannot remember the Men's Basketball program ever being this low in my lifetime.
We're going to finish the season in KenPom at 166th in the nation.
Below programs such as Tarleton St. & Radford
2013-2014 was tough, but we knew we had talent coming back that led us to the consecutive elite eight appearances.
Whomever takes over this program is going to have an entire black canvas to build it.
It is not hyperbole to state that if this hire goes wrong, we could be walking into 10 + years of irrelevance.
Plenty of recent examples of programs that were once consistent tournament team that almost seem irrelevant on the national stage now.
My pick would be Micah. He understands how to build a program quickly in this new NIL / transfer portal era...and has roots deep in the Indiana / Midwest basketball landscape.
Best of luck to Jack, this is a big one.

The only game I watched Penn State play was in the tournament, just so I can see Shrewsbury's system. And I'll say that I wasn't a huge fan of the "hero ball" philosophy on offense. Maybe it was how it played out in the tournament setting, but it wasn't something I think would work at ND, unless he was able to recruit some serious 1 on 1 ball players. I feel like they need to reach out to someone who develops more a of team ball approach, like early in the Brey years. People forget that Brey ran a very slow paced offense at one time and made sure it was a team attack on offense.

PSU finished 11th in Assist to turnover ratio in the entire NCAA.
I like that stat when it comes to playing "team" basketball. Just my two cents.

He played for Princeton, I'm curious if he would even leave. We should hire the dude from Princeton.
Pickett is their first All American in literally 70 years so he kind of is a hero lol. He is also a big strong guard like Marcus Smart that is able to back down defenders into the paint and dish out to their shooters. PSU is kind of limited as far as "slashing" ability, they don't really have guys that can dive to the paint and go over defenders. So drive and dish is basically their offense, and it worked fine for them.
If nothing else Shrewsbury showed he can create offense from the personnel he has.
Admittedly, I dropped off after Digger was gone, which was basically the start of my teen years and the Jordan Bulls Dynasty. ND Hoops passed the time until spring football LOL.Yes, 100%.
I have very little grievances with the Brey Era. Great memories, and fun teams who represented the University well! Plenty of four years players who loved playing for the program, and improved immensely during their time in South Bend.
His inability to recruit any true big man since Zach Auguste was the programs eventual downfall to where we find ourselves now in my opinion...but I don't think that was for lack of trying. It's just incredibly hard to find those type of players anymore.
Nobody who follows ND hoops forgets the burn offense. But the burn was specifically designed to shorten the game when Harangody got injured in 09-10, that is, after ND's "hero ball" player was out (coincidentally, like Pickett, 'Gody was a 2nd team All American). They continued to use it the next season and had a really good year before getting smoked at the United Center by FSU in the round of 32 despite ND entering the tournament as #5 in the AP poll and a #2 seed. The shot-clock has since been reduced from 35 to 30 seconds, and over the course of a game, those 5 seconds per possession add up. Slow-paced offenses are not well-suited for success in the current iteration of college basketball. The only game I watched Penn State play was in the tournament, just so I can see Shrewsbury's system. I think once he hit those Elite 8 runs, it raised his ceiling and the expectations of the program from new highs. Prior to that, majority of fans seemed content with competing for tournament appearances and being competitive in the Big East, then we joined the ACC and the program was at an all time high under Brey.Admittedly, I dropped off after Digger was gone, which was basically the start of my teen years and the Jordan Bulls Dynasty. ND Hoops passed the time until spring football LOL.
I got more into it once Brey took off. Those back to back Elite Eight appearances were incredibly fun seasons. I didn't really have a great deal of beef with Brey because my expectations were never truly high. Football has always ruled the roost. Those Elite Eight runs certainly gave a glimpse of what is possible, though.
I guess it boils down to big men not really growing on trees. Plus anyone worth his shoe size is going to the NBA within a year or two tops.
