He's got the mentality and drive to definitely be a HoFer. Unless he gets saddled with an awful team I don't see that changing regardless of his 40 time.

There are guys in HOF that are not speed merchants-what he will be ask to do will not require blazing speed just precision and quickness.

You gotta wonder if these supposed "scouts" ever scouted, ya know, his games?

He presents the classic conundrum for scouts of measurables versus actual production. Dude can flat out sling that thing, but....

Exactly. It just seems lazy.

I think it's akin to a lot of the "coaching candidates" lists that "insiders" put out. Some name, with some loose association that's never actually been verified, ends up on one guy's list...and then it snowballs.

Levis is another example. All he really has going for him is decent size, good arm, and "pro style." Yet his film and production are the furthest thing away from Top-10 Pick.

There is literally nothing about Richardson or Levis, on film, that actually screams "Franchise QB."

@IrishLion Called it. A lot of analysts are already setting it up for Mayer to slide. "Questions about his athleticism." GTFO, what a load of garbage. Watch some film, don't push the propaganda. I almost do hope he falls to the Bengals at this point because he'd be in a great position with a QB that could get him the ball.

IMO his downside is Brent Celek and upside is Jason Witten.

His ball skills are so damn good which I think people continuously underate. Best of any ND tight end I’ve seen. He’ll be the perfect safety blanket for a QB.

He was basically all anyone had to worry about in our pass game last year and still no one could stop him
This is such an underrated statement. I went into several games earlier in the season thinking there’s no way team X allows him to single handedly tear up their passing defense, and he just kept doing it.

Personally think Eifert had an edge there when it comes to soft hands and catch radius but I think Mayer is better in space, not to mention a better in-line blocker. Overall Mayer is the better prospect between the two IMO but that's saying something considering Eifert was a pro-bowl caliber player when healthy.

That scouting report listed his blocking as his weakness, but that can be taught and coached. Reaching over a DB's back to snag a pass can't be taught.

They must be thinking of Bowers. Mayer actually has highlights with him blocking. Bowers has none.

Yeah, it’s like calling blocking Witten’s weakness. Ok, yeah, he was better at catching…but he was still a top-5ish blocking TE.

I understand that Kelce is a great talent. But his blocking is garbage. He’ll likely be considered “greatest TE ever” when he retires, despite the fact that he sucked at half of his job. And then you have a guy like Witten who was truly great catching AND blocking. While Witten will still be a HOF, he won’t get GOAT status, though he really should.

I think Mayer could be another Witten.

Right? He didn't even play post season and Mayer still graded as #1 among all TEs this year.

I would prefer Mayer to fall and go to a team with a QB like Burrow & Allen, makes both team's passing game more dangerous.

Mayer’s game always reminded me of Jeremy Shockey for the Giants.
Shockey was a more explosive athlete. Ran like a 4.55 40. Mayer has the potential to end up being the better all around player, but he is not the athlete Shockey was.
