MF has to have justified this somehow, that or he was forced.
Yesterday I realized I kept blaming everyone else for Freeman's failures. ie. It was Rees' fault that we lost to Marshall and Stanford. And it was Swarbrick's fault that they didn't get Ludwig. But the big fat reality dawned on me yesterday - Freeman isn't a good coach. He isn't making smart decisions. He's allowing himself to get bullied into poor decisions by the AD. Don't get me wrong Swarbrick is awful, but I think we have to stop acting as if Freeman is an innocent bystander.

Cliff's notes?
ND admin is scared to be to good.
They think the fans and admin are not aligned (Jack needs to drop the fantasy of competing at the highest level)
They can not wrap their brains around why ND is scared to commit to football. Brought up Stanford a lot and how they never lost academic prestige because they were good.

A lot more, good interview highlighting that it looks bad what happened, but kept it calm. I would do more but finishing my day.

Jim Strong is the last OC at Notre Dame to win a National Championship. So based on that Lou Holtz has been the only coach who had an effective hire for OC. Here is a direct quote from Jim Strong:
“I think Marcus Freeman knows what he wants to do,” Strong said. “He's a great football coach, and he’s going to look at those individuals, and whoever ends up with it — what an honor and an opportunity to work at one of the premier institutions in the country with not only great players, but great young men.
“I follow Notre Dame football enough to know that he has a lot of qualified candidates. And I believe he’ll make a great decision.”

I have no idea if this is going to be a good or bad hire, but I cannot go against what Freeman has done so far with hiring HIS Staff. I truly hope that Parker has success and that ND does its due diligence when hiring the next OL coach.

Many many college football coaches are thoroughly webbed into the big coaching fraternity and the famous coaching trees. This allows them to tap a lot of real possibilities. I wonder if Coach Freeman is intimately immersed in all that possibility. Is his experiential scope very broad and who does he really know well? Maybe lots, but I just see him as somewhat of a junior member of the frat, and perhaps that is some of the problem.

As far as the Notre Dame offense this year is concerned: I believe that we will have an assistant coach on the field at the Quarterback position, and that Hartman will be able to guide us through this year. All that Parker need do is to tell Sam that he has the green light to change the play before the snap. What I intuit we will lack, maybe even sorely, is Coach Tommy's creativity. That at least should cost us.

That is about as realistic as me waking up in bed next to Emilia Clarke.

The problem with your logic is that you are drawing the conclusion that Swarbrick is bullying Freeman into making poor decisions.

The reality is that Swarbrick or the BoT is the one making the decision to not pay the buyout. That isn't Freeman's call. You can't be bullied into a decision you don't make. If the AD or the BoT decide that it ultimately isn't worth paying the buyout, then there isn't much Freeman can do about it. Freeman is the head coach, Jack is the AD. He outranks him and can usurp his decisions if he chooses, and the board outranks even Jack.

It's utterly ridiculous that they would do that to Freeman, but he basically is an innocent bystander in that scenario.

Has he spoken to Carr yet? That’s probably his main job over the next 24hours.

I'm rooting for this guy, if for no other reason, the amount of mockery and negativity that's coming his way because he landed a job that a bunch of other people fucked up.
I'm am too. Sincerely hope he makes a lot of fans and pundits look silly these next couple years.
Not his fault.

I'm with you. I'm not ecstatic about the hire but the amount of disrespect thrown his way by "fans" is incredible. I'm rooting for the guy to absolutely blow the roof off with this ensemble of skill players. Hope everyone takes a giant leap this year.

That's exactly how I look at it. Wasn't what I wanted personally but it became what it is. If he does well at his job, the team likely does.

I think we're all rooting for the guy. No one wants him to fail (except for narcissists who would rather be right than enjoy a winning program). Fact is it was a stupid hire. I think most agree.
