My problem with Rees is that he has stretches of brilliance and then will go away from the "bread and butter" that's working. Or make an absurd call that kills a drive. It often happens when we are gashing teams on the ground and he seemingly goes "ok well NOW is the time to hit them with the pass when they won't be expecting it!" Sometimes it works like the pop pass to Mayer against Clemson or the throwback to Mitchell tonight. Other times, it causes absolute calamity when there didn't need to be any.
Mid-4th quarter up a touchdown with a turnover prone QB on 1st and goal when the opponent is gassed and getting bowled over by the OL... how on earth do you put the ball in the air there? And if you are going to put it in the air, how do you call something as risky as a slant? Just total lunacy. He has got to mature out of his bad habits or he needs to get himself a QB that isn't going to make critical errors. Until then... know your personnel, know your situation. It's like he sometimes forgets he's driving a Jeep instead of a Porsche and acts surprised when he rolls the thing taking a corner too fast.
