Freeman doesn't believe anyone else will sit out or transfer before the bowl game.

Merriweather and Bracy practicing and good to go for the bowl game.
Curious if that means Styles stays next season.

Why wouldn't Styles stay next season? He can be WR1 on our team, and after the year he had, he's not going to transfer to someplace better. He just needs to get his head on straight.

These exhibition bowls are turning into survival of the fittest in regards to the portal. Going to end up forcing the CFP to expand to 16-32 teams like the rest of college football does their post season.

Well, it should have been 8. Never once in my 40 years of watching college football have I EVER thought the #9 team at the end of the year should have really been national champion, ffs.

So 12 is just so stupid. But might as well wade all the way into the shit now and make it 16.

You've also never seem the number 9 nine team go on the sort of winning run to close out the season it would take for them to win the CFP now.

Quite right. It’s unnecessary because the regular season effectively determines things. You go on a run during that, you’re the best. Pretty open and shut. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. Thought I saw rumblings.

Damn, I thought we were losing a lot of players but South Carolina is bleeding. Marshawn was their only real threat, at least in terms of numbers from their rushing attack:

Here's SCs top 4 runners:
1MarShawn LloydSORB91115735.16912.3363.67
2Jaheim BellJRTE12732613.5836.0821.75
3Juju McDowellSORB12561913.4124.6715.92
4Christian Beal-SmithSRRB8361484.1154.5018.50

And they lost their top TE and 2nd TE and their best defensive back (who is projected as a 1st or 2nd rounder). And they lost a DL, probably one of their top 4 in terms of stats.

I really hope ND can exploit SC in the run game mismatch.

I guess there was a lot smoke this time last year that he didn’t like playing for Del?
And random speculation at times this season that he’d leave b/c Pyne sucked, but that never made a ton of sense to me, assuming we’d have someone better at QB next year.

But who knows. We shall see.

It was hilarious listening to Pete and Matt Fortuna talk on last week’s Shamrock podcast both agreeing that ND was hit harder by injuries opt outs etc than South Carolina. Lol they must have done literally no research

Losing our Starting QB and best offensive player/team MVP and best defensive player I think gives us the nod that we were hit harder.

We are losing two first round talents and our best player on both sides of the ball. I guess it could be a quality over quantity argument, but admittedly I didn't listen to it.

Not really close unless you put insane value on losing Pyne.

ND:

- QB Drew Pyne
- TE Michael Mayer
- DE Isaiah Foskey
- CB Cam Hart

South Carolina:

- DT Pickens
- CB Rush
- CB Smith (NFL stud)
- RB/TE Bell
- TE Stogner
- RB Lloyd
- DE Edmond
- FS Reed (TBD injury)
- RB2 Beal-Smith (TBD injury)
- WR3 Vann

One could argue production wise we took the bigger hit, but in terms of numbers not so much.

Losses amount to down their top 2 rushers and 3 of their top 5 receivers along with their best defensive player who is an NFL guy and #1 edge rusher with 9 TFLs.

I think there is an odd pessimism with this game, but South Carolina is a okay team that has gotten significantly worse since the bowl was announced. If NDs gets even something from the QB, they should win by double digits. They honestly might be able to safely win running the Clemson no passing offense.

It's almost like ESPN, advertisers, sponsors, and other higher ups wanted it all along...

Feels like a lot of the pessimism is b/c they have a QB who just finally started living up to his hype and we have????

Agree we’re as good or better when it comes to the other 21 guys on the field though.

Why is Cam Hart not playing? Injury?

Idk I didn’t watch the Clemson game but don’t really take much from the Tennessee game. It should be more likely they score less than 10 pts than Rattler has some big day IMO.

Just saw the line is ND -2.5. If you assume the oddsmakers set the original line knowing Mayer and Foskey likely were not playing all along, it was more like ND -4.5 - 5.5 before, so we’re assigning 3 pts to the spread for Pyne. I’m not too sure Pyne is worth 3 pts to the spread….
