1) As far as Buchner not being willing to just let someone come in and take his job, you are correct and that's a very good thing for the state of the program. I want guys to have to compete and constantly earn their status. Anyone afraid of competition isn't worth having, in my opinion.

2) If Buchner transferred after losing out, we are still looking better at QB in the following years with Minchey entering his second season in the program and then Carr coming in. Maybe, TB would still have a shot at starting the following year - but realistically, I think next season is make or break for TB.
Not disagreeing with any of this

I asked this earlier in the week, but as a QB down the pecking order and say we lose out on top targets, what do you all think of Davis Brin, Tulsa QB? It sounds like his OL was horrible (bottom 5) so of course he got beat up and their record sucked, but he cut his interceptions in half, they had 2 good wins at end of season, and seems like a solid 6'2" QB ready to lead a team (a much better team w/a better OL I presume). He had a great game against OSU in '21. Do you think coaches would kick the tires here or pass and stay with current projected '23 roster? Article: Tulsa QB Davis Brin Will Enter the Transfer Portal

The WKU (Reed?) looked to have some nice stats and showed improvement every year. If we miss in the first couple I wouldnt mind circling back to him.

Did I miss the discussion somewhere about how Tommy has been MIA for all of the recruiting visits thus far...

But mysteriously shows up in Texas when the other coaches are there to visit the Texas prospects???

Tommy setting up camp in Texas for some reason that I cannot possibly fathom.

Hudson Card is the obvious one (are they allowed to go in-home with guys who entered the portal? don't see why not) but he was MIA for long enough that your question is warranted. Who else has he been visiting...

ISD and 247 both saying that Rees was putting in work on the recruiting front. ND wasn't giving out his locations.

Tulane isn't that far from Texas. I mean, he could fly out of NO and get anywhere pretty quick.

Just got out the Reynolds Wrap to make a hat - the AWOL Rees and the Loy "surprise" are related and this has nothing to do with a QB transfer.

The more I watch Pratt, the more I hope it is him. Big arm, moves ok and has good patience in the pocket.

I know one poster on here "thinks" Card is the type that Tommy wants, but that goes against almost all the evidence in his most recent recruiting. ( Kenny M, Dante M, Austin N, Jackson A, Chris V, Angeli, Mertz, and I would even throw in Coan).

Other then maybe Chris V and obviously Tyler Buch, all of these guys are stay in the pocket if possible and pick you apart guys. Other then 1.5 of these guys are dual threats. The only True dual threat guy is Tyler B and the jury is out.

This is why I think Pratt is the guy he really wants and best fits what he wants and fits his offensive brand.

EDIT: While I am sure I am missing some guys he recruited, these are the names/guys we know he was hot/heavy on. Again this isn't comprehensive, but I think my point is solid on Tommy's type.

So Card should have his graduation/credit stuff worked out by mid-month at the latest (most schools are doing finals now, though). Either he will be graduated, or he will know exactly which winter-session courses he needs to take to graduate/transfer IF he wants to be at ND.

If we hit the end of the month and haven't heard anything on Card, I would venture to guess that means it's Pratt, and they're waiting for the Cotton Bowl to be over.

Neither coming to fruition, or extending it beyond December if it's NOT Card or Pratt, would mean there is a third option that we aren't aware of/isn't in the portal yet.

Liam Coen, Rams OC, headed back to Kentucky. I’m sure someone can link the tweet. Sampson just RT’d it.

Good, they can take him. He's ok with Xs and Os, but absolutely a terrible recruiter & developer. Imagine recruiting Brendon Clark and Drew Pyne in back to back classes. Fuckin' moron.
I don't see McVay making a very risky hire given their train wreck of a season this year.

He's got two pretty damn good QBs for '23 and '24. How do you know BK didn't make the call on Pyne and Clark?

Kelly who got Walker Howard and Jayden Daniels in the portal? Everyone wants to blame Kelly, like the OC/QB Coach doesn't have a heavy role in recruiting. And he's yet to develop a highly rated QB.
It’s LSU, Jeffrey Dahmer could be HC and he’d pull in 4-5-stars w/ minimal effort. BK didn’t have any luck recruiting Howard to ND when he was HC in South Bend. That’s a perfect example why he goes to a factory that recruits itself.

The BK Boogeyman excuse is old. It's absurd to think the OC/QB Coach has zero input on recruiting.

Also old: Everything is Tommy's Fault.

Of course the QB coach has input on QB recruiting. He's the first read. But if the head coach, or OC - neither of which was him at the time - is fine taking Clark in a pinch after McNamara fell through, or standing by our offer to Pyne after he stopped growing, OK. Rees would have had input but I don't know he would have had the authority at the time to offer a scholarship to a second QB in that class over Pyne, if BK/Long didn't want to.

Walker Howard is a Louisiana kid who's dad played for LSU in the 90s. And if admissions had cleared him he would be at ND right now.
