One of the interesting things here is going to be how, or if, he adjusts to the demographic differences of recruiting at a “traditional” university, rather than an HBCU. You would think that a HBCU would have a vastly different demographic recruiting profile than a P5 school would, simply because of the depth of the talent pool of non African-American players you should be able to access as a P5 but maybe wouldn’t be able to access at an HBCU. Not good or bad, just different. You generally hear in other discussions that the ratio of African-American athletes to whites in D1 is something like 70-30. No idea how accurate that really is.

I was curious about the makeup of the current roster at Jackson, and based on a quick review of the profile pics of the 2022 team (which is silly and non-scientific, but was all the more effort I wanted to put into it) it appears there are about 15-ish young men of either Latino or Caucasian race on the team, most appearing to be underclassmen, which tells me they are his (Deions) recruits and not holdovers. I was surprised by that.

That said, it will be interesting to see how the “prime” gimmick is going to play in some living rooms (I guess I mean suburban white living rooms). Not that it’s a racist thing, because I don’t think it is. And I don’t think it matters at all for your average African-American head coach. But deions “prime” gimmick IS different, and I suspect the “prime” gimmick just resonates very well with African-American athletes in general. Maybe it does with white athletes too, I genuinely don’t know. As a white guy, I always have liked him, but that’s all I have to go by.

Maybe none of it matters at all, just something I’ll be interested in seeing how Deion approaches.

I never liked Deion as a player because he came off as a super me guy and way too arrogant,… high stepping into the end zone while his team is down by forty points,… he’s a bit easier to like now though I do get the reasons some may still be turned off. The expectation the he’d bring compliance issues with him probably wasn’t far off,… the landscape and rules changed just in time for him.

I was put off by his Mr. T chains and "me" attitude, but truthfully if he was on my team I'd be ok with it.

I don't know how many "me" guys played defense, special teams and a little bit of offense in the NFL. Sanders returned kicks and punts in the 90s when people were allowed to get killed on special teams.

He caught 36 passes as a WR at the age of 29 in the NFL and was cashing checks for being a corner.

So we are to be convinced that Deion isn't a "me" guy? Did that video not contain 101 references to "I'm coming"?
I think part of it is a character he plays, and part of it is the real him. It’s hard to be able to tell what’s real and what’s not with him. Sometimes he absolutely is a “me” guy, and other times he’s very giving and selfless and genuine. I think that’s part of the appeal, he’s not super easy to label.

I don't believe Deon one bit when he says his mission is to help kids. Deon is in the Deon business.

The only difference is that I feel that way about pretty much every college football head coach, so I really don't have a problem with him.
I think I have mentioned this before, but I have seen Deion in action when I was a Manager at Finish Line. He would come in and buy huge chunks of gear to give to underprivileged kids. He did this without any recognition either. It was truly all about the kids.

He was also notorious for taking away an entire side of the field because nobody would throw over there.

I think he addressed this in his HOF speech (there's that gold jacket, too) and said something to the degree of him being a bad tackler equated to his mother never having to work again. That's funny stuff.

Nobody's saying he wasn't an amazing cover corner, but you were the one questioning him being a "me" player lol. Deion played offense because he wanted to play offense; he played special teams because he wanted to return punts. He didn't tackle because he didn't want to tackle lol.

But his playing days have nothing to do with how he'll coach the kids in Boulder.

Sounds like he had absolute power over his general managers and coaches at the time. He just wanted to play everywhere and they didn't have a choice? Still doesn't sound like the act of a selfish player who "wanted to" play in all three phases. I'm clearly missing something here.

I'm curious what his former teammates have to say about the matter. I understand that flamboyant and selfish can intersect on the Venn Diagram, but they are capable of being mutually exclusive in an athlete. If the ball isn't being thrown your way, it seems hard to have to tackle. When he was in his prime years (no pun intended) QBs were not targeting his side of the field. Sanders didn't hit like Rod Woodson, but Woodson wasn't a cover corner like Sanders was either.

His baseball contracts ran through July 31st and he was still around playing with the Braves in the playoffs. It doesn't strike me as someone who was selfish. That perception was put on him by pundits and fans who didn't like what he was doing. Or just didn't like him.

He's now be labeled by some as a sellout for leaving JSU for CU. So it goes.

I think he is incredibly charismatic and a highly intelligent and capable leader. Bring in great coaches, give them room to be creative, and just be a CEO and recruit your ass off. He’s going to win a lot of parents over with his energy and resume as an athlete. Half will watch for him to succeed, half to fail. It’s going to be an interesting ride.

i would imagine Coach Prime is in an unbelievable win now mode considering his son only has 2 years of eligibility left. While I am sure he wants to set things up for long term success, I highly doubt he wants to sacrifice his sons final season before NFL eligibility "rebuilding"

Per footballscoop, Deion is retaining current RB coach. Only coach that has been retained.
This is good right, in regards to Edwards? The RB coach didn't offer him before this, and just now offered him? What's he going to say as to why he's offering him now? Whereas a new coach could come in and start offering everybody based on film.

This along with heavy speculation that Mark Stoops first choice for OC at Kentucky is Liam Coen could mean the LA Rams coaching staff is going to start breaking apart.

You know what that could mean...

Would an NFL OC really make the move to CFB for the same position? Even if it is the SEC SEC SEC!!!

Unless we think he's getting pushed off the Rams?
